Justice Elena Kagan warned Monday that the Supreme Court is „overriding“ Congress to hand President Donald Trump sweeping new powers over independent agencies.
Her dissent came after the court, in a 6-3 decision, allowed Trump to fire Federal Trade Commission member Rebecca Slaughter while the justices consider whether to overturn a 90-year-old precedent limiting presidential removals. The conservative majority offered no explanation, as is typical on its emergency docket, but signaled a willingness to revisit the landmark 1935 Humphrey’s Executor ruling.
Kagan, joined by Justices Sonia Sotomayor and Ketanji Brown Jackson, said the court has repeatedly cleared firings Congress explicitly prohibited, shifting control of key regulatory agencies into the president’s hands.
Today’s decision makes it pretty clear that they’re just there to let him do whatever he wants. It’s funny how when it’s convenient for them, the President can do whatever he wants. When it’s‘ something else though, well, Congress needs to do that.

Donald Trump is not president. This is not how a presidency is supposed to go. Checks and balances were established to avoid everything that he’s doing. But the six Supreme Court justices have crushed that concept beneath their knees as they’ve kneeled to him and granted him absolute power. There’s no coming back from this.

She isnt wrong, they are literally taking down legislation passed by congress to give Trump what he wants. If people really think this SC will hold Trump for anything he does (like running for a third time or not ending birth right citizenship) you have not paid any attention.

When a Republican is President it’s unitary executive theory where the president can do whatever he wants. When a Democrat is in charge then Congress has to lay out everything in minute detail and if they don’t specifically say a president can do something than they can’t

Today, I’ve read about this, Trump arresting democrats and potentially taking over the US economy, which would lead to crashing the US dollar and the market. Someone, please end this nightmare.

It’s hilarious how much precedent was set limiting the New Deal and all of its achievements, now they dismantle the Constitution in the name of an orange octogenarian ogre

Not shocked at all. I only wonder why we still go through the farcical court process. They should just do summary judgments instead of wasting so much time. We all know how it will be decided. All you folks that aren’t familiar with the kangaroo courts of most of the third world nations, let me hook you up with some knowledge.THEY WILL MAKE UP A REASON. The law at high level isn’t black and white its an interpretation of a gray box. No need to even worry. Just like in Venezuela. Just like in China and North Korea and Russia. They are only here to do what the boss says.

The six Conservative justices absolutely need to face justice over what they are doing. This is an unthinkable betrayal of the nation.
Rebuild the SCOTUS from the ground up, in my opinion.

Question, with all of these decisions this sets precedent for the next president right? With the removal of federal employee say the next person in charge can simply start firing anyone at will so like appointees, even SCOTUS if there’s cause

I hope I see the day we have a Democrat or Independent as POTUS, and I hope that person has the willingness and courage to use these SCOTUS rulings to obliterate every government official, judge, attorney, aide, whatever… that facilitated this bullshit. Then use the “sitting-president-absolute-immunity-and-full-control-of-all-government-agencies” to repair and mitigate the damage done by this SCOTUS, POTUS, and Congress.
