Walt Disney Co. said Jimmy Kimmel Live! will return to the air on Tuesday, ending a suspension imposed following controversial remarks its ABC late-night host made about the assassination of Republican activist Charlie Kirk.

“Last Wednesday, we made the decision to suspend production on the show to avoid further inflaming a tense situation at an emotional moment for our country,” the company said Monday. “It is a decision we made because we felt some of the comments were ill-timed and thus insensitive.  We have spent the last days having thoughtful conversations with Jimmy, and after those conversations, we reached the decision to return the show on Tuesday.”

    2. Jimmy should thank trump for the ratings boost. I know I’ll be watching tomorrow and the rest of the week.

“Thoughtful consideration”…and noting how many Disney+ accounts were cancelled.

Even though this is a good first step, I would like to see the conditions of his return before we all start celebrating though.

Lmfao too late. Cancelled Hulu/Disney/Espn and won’t be going back.

I wont be restarting my subscription. They will do it again when they feel like it. Ill also be pirating marvel movies from now on.

So, a few hours before he got suspended, and the FCC guy threatened him, I was very interested to see how kimmel was gonna respond. Well, after all the shit that went down, I am even more invested then I was before! And hopefully can finally find out.

Should keep a boycot on Sinclair, and Nexstar advertisers though. Fascist supporter broadcasters.

I guess I’m a jimmy kimmel fan now?

Imagine, the guy who hosted the man show, where each show ended with b-roll of girls jumping on trampolines… that guy, is on the receiving end of MAGA fury.

      no true scotsman amirite?

Now imagine if 10+ million people did a work strike. Politicians and ceos would give us any demand

The only reason they reversed anything is because subscriptions were dropping like flies. This wasn’t out of the kindness of their hearts.

Tl;dr, they are still pretending that what Kimmel said was in some way controversial. This is some very insincere execu-speak.

I don’t see any reason to cancel my boycott.

    12. People need to see the power they have when they organize. If they put this much energy into boycotting for Kimmel, just think what they could do if they organized a movement against the Orange idiot.

Lots of people must have canceled.
Kimmel said nothing bad.  Kirk was a horrible person.

Sinclair affiliates were getting absolutely hammered over the last week, so much so that Sinclair put its Kirk propaganda film on YouTube Friday so affiliates would not have to run it.

    15. Before we open the champagne we need to watch his show tomorrow and see if he is muted.

I don’t know if Disney should be off the hook here. This is their 2nd attempt at propping up fascists. Do we want to give them a 3rd? They clearly didn’t learn their lesson from the first time.

I think I posted this on another thread here but IMO this is a win for the country, for Jimmy, and for me personally. Jimmy’s my favorite—he’s genuinely a good guy, and I can’t wait to hear what he says tomorrow night. It’s going to be a major moment, and I honestly can’t think of anyone better to face it head-on.

As for Disney, I know some folks are saying they “caved” or “gave in” after the D+ and Hulu boycotts hit their bottom line. That might be true. But I’m not ready to throw shade just yet—because in the end, they made the right call. And as someone who values Jimmy’s comedy and the First Amendment, I’m grateful they did.

Nice. I canceled Hulu today with a note so I don’t care what everyone says you can all thank me specifically.

    19. Ok, Disney. Next you need to terminate your affiliation agreements with [Sinclair Broadcast Group and Nexstar](https://www.ctvnews.ca/world/article/who-are-nexstar-and-sinclair-the-abc-affiliate-owners-who-issued-statements-against-jimmy-kimmel/) Media

The Sinclair ABC agreements are [up for renewal](https://deadline.com/2022/10/disney-sinclair-set-renewal-abc-affiliates-2026-1235158976/) in 2026.

It’s not clear when the Fox [agreements ](https://investor.foxcorporation.com/news/corp-press-releases/2020/fox-broadcasting-company-and-sinclair-broadcast-group-announce-multi-year-affiliation-renewal-agreement/)expire, but those should also be terminated.

Stop letting the tail wag the dog.

    20. This will 100% not result in a meltdown from Trump or the bots over on the conservative sub.

    21. Yay!  We won!  Maybe?

If I were Disney I would exact revenge on the two conglomerates that tried to extort them.   Cut their feeds right in the middle of football games until their CEOs personally kiss the Disney CEOs ass live on TV.  Disney need to nip this.

    22. Decent_Delay817 on

Too late. I already canceled my Disney+ subscription. They have to do more than that to earn my money and trust back after what they did.

It’s unbelievable that a kid friendly family-oriented company would bow down to a well known pedo that protects other pedophiles just because Pedo Don can’t take jokes and criticism from comedians expressing their free speech.

Even if it is temporary, the damage has been done.

    23. TheBetawave on

Keep boycotting. I want a public apologies and a dedication to free speech and anti-facism from disney before i give them another dollar.

Do not forget: the power is in the people, no matter what smoke and mirrors they try to use to obscure this fact. Our collective power was able to bring them to heel. But make no mistake, there will be another attempt by this administration.

This is why the 1st Amendment is so important. We were able to acknowledge something we did not like (through free information exchange), which goes against our values, and acted on it.

Do you guys feel that power? We can demand more.

      Power to the people.

    25. MrFunktasticc on

Happy to see the left can execute. Not the 1000 things the right attempts to boycott on a daily basis.

    26. While refusing to apologize or explain exactly what they suspended him for.

    27. Yeah, fuck you Disney. I’m finally free; you just gave me that little nudge I needed. Appreciate it, bud!

    28. Out of all the companies, Disney has the most power to fight this administration and they could easily put up a very strong resistance.
