That and also how much of it has been hidden and/or forgotten.
Owning up to and spilling the whole truth about events throughout history is extremely rare. „The winners write history“ and all that.
Some countries are even trying to do it right now. Turkey denies the armenian genocide, China and the Uyghurs, The Tiananmen square massacre, and so on..if they all happened 100-200 years in the past those events would probably be gone from history

We’ve seen them attempt to rewrite history in current day, so of course.
Its complicated as its easy to learn off of first hand sources, second, and third hand sources. First hand sources being time pieces wrote by authors in that period, journals, and news articles all give important insite into what was happening. Second hand sources are academics that take first hand sources and face stiff peer reviews. While third hand sources usually repeat naxl various things they heard from second hand sources.
I enjoy studying history, but most people dont understand how to interpret it and focus solely on singular periods. Ive just spent the last year researching the rise and downfalls of the Spanish Empire, and Dutch Empire right now its all about the British Empire. Its amazing how specific events that happen 100 hears prior can lead to huge implications. For instance, the British stayed out of the 30 years war and had the beggining of the Scientific revolution, they had a civil war giving them the edge in warfare etc. This leads to them beating the Dutch Navy 2 of 3 major naval conflicts, then using the Dutch as a major buffer against France. During this 100 year period they sowed the seeds for the colonies, took over the Slave trade, and the spice trade leading to them being the largest economy in Europe at the time. Now add in individuals like Adam Smith, the Dutches knowledge in banking, amd the scientific revolution and the Bitish became the first manufacturing super power giving them power from the 1680s until the WW1 period.
History is always written by the victor so we always get told a certain point of view.
You get a wildly different perspective of what happened last week based on which source you look at
Luckily all of history before that is completely unbiased and trustworthy
