Theres no need to shoot them down, russian planes have been violating the nato airapace for ever, it would only give putin pretext to start mobilizing people, and possbly put extra pressure on the baltics. And nato right now is in no position to wage any war on its eastern borders.

A Nato country (Turkey) used to do hundreds of incursions daily to another Nato country (Greece) and no one bat an eye for it. They still do plenty every month in the Aegean but I dont see the alies getting ready for war
