    1. > She added that Hollywood’s resistance to motherhood wasn’t just about public image, but also its potential to affect her work: „I was always being told by people in the industry: ‚Don’t play a mom. It’ll make you seem old,'“ she recalled. „And I was like, ‚But I am a mom.'“

      > „There was so much about our business that desexualized you, so you couldn’t be a movie star if you played a mom. And thank goodness, that’s sort of going by the wayside,“ Witherspoon said. „But that was a big part of when I was in my 20s and 30s: ‚Don’t play a mom. No men will desire you, or nobody will want to go see that movie because nobody wants to see a movie about a mom.'“

    2. She mentioned this many, many years ago, too. Her career has been in an interesting spot, her production company allows her the flexibility to produce many varied projects, and she still has a large, loyal fan base still willing to see the roles that she chooses to play. Good for her.

Ughhh, more Reese? Really? Who’s pushing this media blitz? No one cares.

    4. I always find it strange how they portray mothers in films. They’re almost always way older than they would be giving birth to their first child, even with current age ranges. I think a large part of it is our own memories of our mothers. We remember our mother once we’re 8 or so, and that she seems to be where they always portray them in movies. Early forties, which is why a 20/30 something could get pushed much older than normal, even though late 20s and early thirties is one of the most common times to have your first child.

    5. Marissa Tomei said she only gets offered motherly roles after playing Aunt May too.

Again another article trying to make people feel sorry for a woman with half a billion net worth and a successful career. Fuck off, we have actual problems.

The kind of big movie she was in back then appeals to teens. And yeah teens aren’t into movies about their parents.

Smaller indie movies kill it with mom characters. All you gotta do is prefer being a rich actor to being a rich and famous actor.

Even back then Nicole Kidman played a mother in the Others.

Edit: Dunno who gave her that advice. Some other actress at brunch or something?

Reese Witherspoon could play a great great great grandmother and I would desire her. A lot.

So is everyone picking pieces of the same article and posting it as content? This. Place. Sucks.

    10. Wait, what?..

Isn’t men wanting women to stay home, cook their dinner, and raise their kids like, no.1 on the misogynist bingo card?.. wouldnt that be exactly what the kind of man that judges a woman like this would want?..

Isn’t this.. the opposite of that?..

Because they’re kinda mutually exclusive, so the controlling kind of men we’re talking about can’t want *both*.
