    1. Utterly fucking ludicrous and entirely unacceptable. The fact that the Charter can be unilaterally overridden in the first place makes it pointless; the fact that it can be overridden to revoke the human rights of innocent people is dangerous and a travesty. If Alberta actually goes through with doing this, they’d be activating both a legal and moral time bomb in this country.

If you wanna know why simply look south.

As a trans person living in the province I feel like they’ve made it clear that we’re not wanted here anymore, but we simply can’t afford to leave.

    3. Once again, when we have a clause on the books that reads „the charter of human rights is optional if you want it to be“, we functionally do not have a charter of human rights. We’re seeing that in action here.

Even if you’re not trans, even if you hate trans people, this should matter to you – the government is very openly showing they have no regard for human rights. I should not have to explain to you why that is bad.

How many kids are in competitive sports and how many of those are trans? They’re making a minority of a minority, especially so since it’s only girls sports! Smith forgetting about young trans-men, proving they are indeed young men.

Surely at some point in my life the NWC will be used for something positive and not some grievance a conservative government has with bike lanes or a minority.
