Once upon a time, there was a millionaire whose last name started with K. He spoke his mind on controversial topics in a way that upset many people, until he was suddenly silenced by a shocking act that only served to galvanize his passionate supporters.
FCC approved the merger of ABC/Disney of them buying Nextstar for $6.2 Billion 30m after they were forced to cancel Kimmel. Executives backed Kimmel until they were forced to do so.
Edit for Clarification: Nextstar is Merging with Tegna. Nextstar OWNS ABC affiliate stations across the U.S. The merger was approved after Disney/ABC axed Kimmel.

The FCC chair is engaging in news distortion and should resign. But both Sinclair Media and Nexstar are as well. By spreading Trump lies that anything Kimmel said was somehow untrue or rises to a fireable offense.
Under the mandate of the FCC, both Sinclair and Nexstar should immediately have their licenses revoked for all affiliates or they can be sold. If they want to spread the news distortion of Republicans then they can expect to lose their licenses the next time Republicans lose a presidential election.
You dont bring a letter to a gun fight. If Republicans want this war you need to make it very clear to these affiliates they wont have a license the next time Republicans lose a presidential election.

They do need to make a big stink over the loss or our right to free speech, which I’ve always said was our most important right. Maybe this is the thing that’s worth shutting down the government over. But it had to be about more than Kimmel and the head of the FCC.

It IS too late to act. The time to act was exactly ONE YEAR AGO. And failing that, November of last year, failing that, literally any time this year. It finally took until America’s mainstream late night TV got hit. What a disgusting commentary on this whole mess- and sure as hell a vindication of the people who were trying to get y’all off of the damned couch. Now it’s reached the COUCH and you can’t ignore it anymore. It’s not abstract now. They took all of this inaction as your consent- now the rest of it is gonna fall pretty easily.
At BEST, we’re screwed until 2026. Start thinking about next year. Getting them ALL out, not just the GOP, but all of these wishy washy Democrats who just yawned.
And for all of you that wouldn’t vote for Harris because „she was the same as Trump anyway“ how’s that working out for you now? I said project 2025
is a thing and would be a thing. Now stop whining about it and let’s start working for 2026- you’re wasting time with the whining. I mean, you might as well become politically active unless OAN, Newsmax TBN and Fox News were your top viewing choices to begin with; and apparently the era of being able to „rage comment“ on the internet is over, too. So you might as well join in.
I know it sounds accusatory but a lot of us have one through a lot of pain in the last year trying to warn y’all about this. Welcome to wake-up time. Let’s get to work.

I just watched the monologue and it is very obvious they are trying to grift for the Kirk family. He mentioned him twice and it was just to say a news show was talking about his death. If anything, he was way harsher on Kash, but the FCC is demanding a large donation and apology directly to the Kirk family?

I don’t watch Jimmy Kimmel. In fact, I haven’t really watched late night television since Johnny Carson retired. But I do know how to read, and the flap over Kimmel’s monologue concerning trump is so overblown I have to wonder if the far right is wholly illiterate. It appears that a reporter threw trump a softball question, something along the lines of “how are you doing,” with the expectation of trump sharing his distress at the Charlie Kirk shooting and, perhaps, praising or at least saying remembrances of Kirk, but that wasn’t the response. Instead, trump said something like “I’m OK” and segued into a speech about the “big beautiful ballroom.” Kimmel’s monologue merely pointed out how trump, instead of commenting on an issue that concerned all Americans, namely gun violence, went into a soliloquy about his ballroom. If anything, Kimmel should have been commended for pointing out that the leader of the free world, supposedly shattered by the assassination of a person he claimed to admire, pushed the Kirk shooting to the rear in order to praise his big beautiful ballroom that will probably have Kmart gilt accents like the Oval Office. The First Amendment guarantees that the government shall pass no laws restricting freedom of speech. If broadcast licenses are to be threatened over something as innocuous as Kimmel’s monologue, how in the world is Fox still in business after promoting euthanasia for homeless?

Kimmel only insulted Charlie Kirk in the alternative fact Trump universe. And Kirk deserves insults anyway.

So here’s the rundown, as I’m understanding it:
Kimmel’s show was cancelled because ABC / Disney, under pressure from Sinclair and others, bent the knee to the Trump administration.
By implication, we can reasonably suspect that CBS / Paramount cancelling the Tonight Show, despite their protests, was a similar instance of preemptive compliance and an effort to appease the Republican party.
Brian Kilmeade, Fox News host, *still has a job*, and Fox is experiencing *no apparent pressure* after stating quite literally that homeless people should be subject to „involuntary lethal injection“.
