    • Reinigere Luft in öffentlichen Räumen.

Another set of rules that stop us from doing things. And it wasn‘t the Green party. That’s new.

Let people smoke. Limit where they can smoke, for all I care, and make them pay their healthcare costs themselves, but stop it with the bans. I am an adult and can decide for myself whether I want to smoke that cigar or not.

    2. it’s always been a balancing act between pushing the taxes on smoking to the point where marginally less people will do it, but don’t push it so much that the government will miss out on that sweet tax revenue

as long as in the politics they are not willing to part with this money/increase taxes elsewhere to compensate for it, i highly doubt this roadmap will actually go anywhere

yeah let’s start by making one of the best transition tools away from tobacco so expensive that tobacco is the cheaper option 😂

    4. As a smoker, I hope this works. Wouldn’t wish this habit on anyone. Just letting you know that we smell and taste our breaths too we’re just enslaved to the impulse for whatever reason.

Improve the mental health system first before you take away peoples coping mechanisms.

    6. Would be so cool! Lets stop this stupid drug… Kids losing their parents, Kids get destroyed and everyone has to pay the cancer therapy from smokers

    7. Would be nice, ain’t gonna happen:

      Here is why:

      – Big Tabacco puts money into Union, AfD and FDP
      – They and their media partners Frank Gotthardt via NIUS and Döpfner via BILD and Welt will tell us why the state can’t do this… And why we can’t have a „nanny state“

      How do I know?

Well I have been there to listen to the arguments by FDP and Union in regards to the current non smoking laws in restaurants (literally in the 90s you could passive smoke and have a Big Mac at the same time…

The former minister of Justice Buschmann FDP (one of the initiators of „Offene Feldschlacht“) was when he was still general secretary of FDP in NRW the one that argued with „nanny state“ against non smoking in restaurants in NRW a law introduced by SPD and Green

    8. As a Spaniard living in Germany, I was honestly surprised to see how little progress has been made here regarding tobacco regulations. It feels like a big contrast: on one hand, Germany is always promoting Umweltschutz and green energy, but when it comes to public health and tobacco, the laws seem to be decades behind what we already have in Spain.
The number of young people smoking is striking, and working in a hospital, it’s even more shocking to see some patients light up shortly after an operation. Even around schools, smoking still feels very present.
I don’t say this as criticism from “outside,” but more as someone who truly hopes things can change for the better. The potential benefits are huge for health, for society, for the healthcare system. I just hope that someday people here will wake up to how important this is.

      FYI, this:

      > Huge savings for the healthcare system

is false. In every country where it’s been studied, healthcare costs are highest in old age, and smokers, by dying earlier on average, actually save the system money relative to nonsmokers. Sorry, I know it’s one of rabid antismokers‘ favorite talking points, but unfortunately it’s completely untrue.

I don’t smoke and I dislike smoking quite a bit, personally. But I dislike controlling people’s personal choices even more.

Part of why Germany is relatively loath to enforce smoking bans is because such bans were very popular with the Nazis. Another fun fact for you 🙂

I would propose quite the opposite – start selling cigarettes that would kill much faster and kill all smokers.

    11. Thankfully we have politicians who are in favor of good things and against bad ones and use their power to ban whatever they deem bad.

    12. America does A LOT of things very very wrong, but at least there I could let my kids play at the McDonald’s playground without getting exposed to secondhand smoke. I have almost never been to one here where adults aren’t using it as a smoking section. Disgusting.

I’ve thought a lot about how smoking is seen as a cultural thing. I’ve also thought about a lot of aspects of American culture that are objectively “wrong” since moving and try to improve. I adopted better environmentally friendly habits. I can tolerate bureaucracy. I can’t accept smoking.

As a non smoker I really don‘t care what others do, but I take those 16 Billion that Germany earns through taxes every year (2nd highest consumption tax).

    14. Worldly_Table_5092 on

For the public good each generation should give up something; Energy Drinks, Vapes, Cigs and Pensions.

    15. You know what? I kinda like the current smoking laws in Germany.

No adult non smoker ever has to experience passive smoke, anywhere. At least in essential spaces and even restaurants and some pubs, but smokers should still be allowed to enjoy their cigarettes and cigars.
If you are arguing about healthcare, nothing dangerous should be allowed. No motorcycles, no sports, no inlineskating, no alcohol, no weed, no energy drinks, no fast food.

The one thing we can agree on is that CHILDREN should be protected at all costs, no smoking indoors when kids are present, no smoking inside cars when children are present and definitely no smoking at playgrounds.

That would be great! I could finally use my balcony. Otherwise every 30 minutes it’s quite hazardous location.

Leta also ban Marihuana, makes people write stupid things over the internet. And also porn,, because of morality. And ban any processed food because of cancer. And BBQs too. Lets ban women to go out at night to avoid raping and masturbation too since is wasted genoma in the wc. Goverment should rule our lifes and make us free of any kind of risky choice.
