    1. I might be wrong but my understanding in Muslim culture if there is threat to life, personal survival has precedence over religious dietary requirements. That may also apply here.

      it’s the Jehovah Witnesses that REALLY piss me off. A lot of them will not accept blood products and my friend, who is a surgeon, had to watch a 40 year old die because his parents refused transfusion, even while he was actively dying. It really messed him up and we changed the rules that you cannot get on the list if you will not accept blood products.

      EDIT: This was before bloodless medicine.

      As far as I’m concerned you make the option available to them and if they reject it they wait for a donated compatible option. Research should continue as normal
