    1. Amazing. They pioneered in nuclear since the 70s. Hopefully they can help push this forward. It could help solve the energy crisis.

    2. That begs the question, how much total energy (not just the lasers) was required? And, how much energy was produced?

Have we really moved so far away in time that no one is going to comment on the 1337 seconds it ran?

Presumably that’s the record for a tokamak, not a general fusion reactor record.

    5. Meanwhile America destroys it’s scientific and academic institutions because knowledge and learning is woke! Join the army, mine coal and have babies that’s all good Americans need to do.

Low key kinda love that France named their reactor WEST and China named theirs EAST. That’s the kind of international pettiness I can get behind.

I’m not surprised as much that they could hold a plasma for 22 minutes, but that a French team could operate a reactor for 22 minutes without a single strike.

Misleading headline, they did not keep a „fusion reactor“ running for 22 minutes. They contained Hydrogen plasma jet for 22 minutes.

      It’s a big deal, but it’s not a „fusion reactor“, it’s a component thereof
