To the people wondering what the fuck is this about, let me explain. This is eastern negotiation strategy. You make absurd demands to recieve something smaller but tangible in the process of haggling. Sadly, Germany does not understands the game. Probably he wants something about EU, like the annulment of immigrant readmission act, maybe something about green energy, CO2 limits, MERCOSUR trade, or maybe discount on military purchase or more aggresive stance towards Russia. Who knows? There are many subjects inside EU and in Ukraine invasion that Poland and Germany are not seeing eye to eye.

I mean sure for internal gains and more voters, but is this not a little bit short lived. russia and belarus are right at the border and doing Military exercise, you would think thats a good time to not piss of your allies!? Regardless of this we should support Poland and all our eastern allies and give them every support they ask for – recent events just show that we need to do more, i was very happy that poland shoot down these russian drones invading their territory, i hope we in germany find the courage to do the same here.

Poland did receive some reparations via the USSR under the 1945 Polish-Soviet Reparation Treaty, but it was controlled by the Soviets, limited, and ended in 1953 under coercion- Poland had no real sovereign choice. The 1953 renunciation wasn’t voluntary in a modern sense, and later treaties focused on borders, not reparations.

Poland suffered massive losses: 17% of its population, most major cities destroyed, huge economic and cultural devastation – far beyond what was delivered. Even if further reparations are unlikely, the history shouldn’t be cheapened. Deliveries happened, yes, but framing it as “Poland got what it was owed” ignores coercion, scale of loss, and moral responsibility.

I have a real disdain for this President, but he is a historian and he highlights a genuine sentiment of hurt that people are all too happy to gloss over because ‘boooo boring, poland at it again’.

For people with open minds: the material losses covered were maybe at around 5% the total material and economic damage, that it either arrived late, was stripped down or was controlled by Soviets. Even that fraction wasn’t delivered in a timely manner to help Poland at a time it mattered most to recover.

Actual losses: conservative estimate is around $50-100 billion in 1945 value, or roughly $1 trillion in today’s $$$

Germany can probably offer réparation for WW2 when Poland has to ask for A5 and Germany come over with different intentions then the last time their army came over?

I am curious, has Poland ever asked about War reparations from Russia or the now called Belarus who sits on top of their formee territories?
Or they know who they are dealing with there, and that is not a topic worth discussing?
If anything is Poland who is on top of former german land right now, maybe they should be paying some kind of lease for that.

Either Poland accepts the status quo or Germany will take the necessary measures in order to protect the Eastern EU border against the planned Russian invasion. Poland seems quite weak right now.
