Vor ungefähr einem Jahr zog ich nach Finnland und ehrlich gesagt hat mich der kulturelle Schock hart getroffen. Die ersten vier Monate waren sehr hart, besonders im Winter und der Kälte. Aber nach einem Jahr hat sich fast alles verändert.
In diesem Jahr habe ich so viele Freundschaften mit erstaunlichen Menschen aufgebaut – sowohl Finns als auch Menschen aus der ganzen Welt. Ich habe die finnische Kultur auf einer tieferen Ebene kennengelernt und fast alles ausprobiert, von Sauna und in gefrorene Seen zum Trinken von Milch zum Mittagessen.
Ich habe auch einige Fortschritte mit der Sprache gemacht – A1 bestanden und jetzt studiere ich A2. Darüber hinaus habe ich hier ein Tech -Team gegründet, zu mehreren Hackathons gekommen, und jetzt arbeiten ich und mein Team daran, unser eigenes Startup zu starten.
Ich möchte mich nur bei allen bedanken, die mir am Anfang geholfen haben – das war der wahre Ausgangspunkt für mich. Und natürlich gibt es in Finnland noch so viel mehr zu erkunden!

I wish everyone who move here had your attitude, kudos to you. It was difficult, but you didn’t give up and kept on trying, you have sisu like a true Finn now.

Kudos for the language test! The few people with immigration background who master Finnish have read a lot Finnish literature. I highly recommend once you got to that point.
According to this, I would say that you seem to have it almost better now than many natives do. It takes a lot of trying and maybe even some luck, but mostly right mindset and personality to get ahead in life. Many of us (natives) may feel like we don’t have to do as much work to achieve certain things in life thus we already speak the language and know the culture etc. but when you are basically an outsider with „will to belong“, you will and have to work twice as hard.

Glad to hear. Many immigrants don’t get past the loneliness phase unfortunately. It’s not easy for Finns ourselves when in that position.
