„The proposal also includes stricter screenings for granting Japanese citizenship to foreigners and the creation of a system to revoke Japanese nationality from naturalized citizens.“
Tbh it is a national security issue and they probably should if all these Chinese are flooding in here and trying to naturalize to get voting rights to vote on issues solely for the benefit of other Chinese residents and not the communities as a whole. You don’t need much Japanese, and you can be naturalized easily in 5 years of business visa or basic residency, which a lot of these guys have. The irony is that it can be „easier“ to get than permanent residency, which now has a screening process that takes 2 years in addition to the requirements.
The new Chinese immigrants already brag online about the voting rights thing and refusing to learn Japanese or assimilate, and Chinese are already 40% of the total of people from countries all over the world who are naturalizing and by the thousands each year because the rules are so lax.
So what do you do with all these guys if China invades Taiwan? It’s gonna be a shitshow cuz they’re definitely not gonna side with Japan given how opinionated the average Chinese person is about this kind of thing. Are they gonna run back home to China as… naturalized Japanese citizens? Are they going to brag about refusing to assimilate with Japanese society buuuuut stay in Japan as a country that would theoretically be under assault by China in that situation? What if one person is naturalized Japanese, but their spouse is a CCP member?
There’s more of them than there are Japanese in the world, and already at around 1 million Chinese immigrants in Japan in 2026 is a crazy pace for a country whose people are conditioned to hate Japanese from elementary school onward.
