this won’t be good for AI training in chinese firms, at least in the short term. sure they will find ways to mitigate but there is no denying nvidia has the top tier GPUs.
Does this mean videocards will get cheaper?
I understand their paranoia. A county as powerful as china having nothing of value to add when it comes to high end chips is unacceptable. But it is funny they also have to push the ‚China is just as good‘ narratieve while simultaneously trying to catch up.
Seems like a move to strengthen the internal market, similar to a 9999% tariff.
That is a very unexpected move
China doesn’t wait for Europe. 🌮
Thanks china. Graphic card might get cheaper now
Hopefully this means that China has either reverse engineered CUDA or is going to force its AI companies to develop CUDA free algorithms or a real translation layer. All of these things will help break Nvidias monopoly on graphics and AI processing.
Looks like China will be the one to break the nvidia lock in. They have the necessary infra to do it, and the necessary workforce to make it work on the software side as well.
„Claims“
That was a bad decision to ban chips to China. They started developing their own and will eventually catch up.
When they start focusing on something, they dominate. Solar panels, high speed trains, electric cars, even niches like instant 360 that is now better than GoPro, etc.
I wouldn’t be surprised if they sell chips that are equivalent in a few years.
What they’re really saying is that they are now copying what Nvidia has in their chips.
Yeah to be fair someone should be looking to curb Nvidia. Their market cap is utterly insane.
‚these chips may look the identical but they say NuVidia on them, they’re exempt‘
