What sort of gobshites do we have working in councils in this country.
Someone, or a group of people think it is a good idea to get rid of a community space for bin storage.
As someone who lived in the area of SDCC for 35 years, I am not surprised they think that bins are more important than the community.
That’s shocking. An established community resource that is well utilised should not even have entered the list for consideration.
For all their talk of men’s mental health and they allow this to happen.

Well that’s a bit rubbish
I grew up around the corner from Ballyroan, and this is just staggering. The community centre is adjacent to a small church, a library, and several shops (also going to promote Get Fresh here – they have a mark up, but if you’re looking for tricky foods to find it’s the best shop in Dublin, with dead sound and helpful staff).
This is an absolutely ideal area for something like a men’s shed, especially since it is very accessible as members of those typically lean older and may have mobility issues, and the Ballyroan/Butterfield area may just be in contention for one of the oldest square 1-2 kilometres (in terms of average age) in the country. Maybe slightly hyperbolic, but it is a *very* old area. The area, Ballyroan especially, has NIMBY’d itself out of any and all developments for decades also, so there really are not much of any alternatives to do in the area.
The council are after spending what feels like several years essentially renovating the 30-40 space car park out front of the shops (community centre and shops are to the back of it), and to be fair at least making it better suited as an actual community area rather than just a string of shops and a footpath. But why in the name of God would they then undo some of that by removing this in place of a storage bin?
Terrible planning. Men’s sheds are essential. Culturally the pub and the church were social outlets for the country and both are going south. Men’s sheds are a great ans healthy way to socialise
