SS: Qatar and the United States are on the verge of finalising an enhanced defence cooperation agreement, said top US diplomat Marco Rubio. The timing of the defense agreement’s finalization is directly linked to an Israeli attack in Doha targeting Hamas political leaders.The attack has created tension among Gulf states, with many Arab and Islamic leaders holding a summit to back Qatar. It also underscores a perception among some U.S. allies that Israel has become as great a threat to regional peace as Iran, it also undermined the trust of Gulf states in the U.S. as a reliable security guarantor.

This agreement is likely done to reaffirm USA’s interest for broader regional stability and to regain the trust of the gulf countries.

I’ve seen some reports indicating that the prior strike did not eliminate Hamas leaders….This is quite the triangulated bind here. IIRC Qatar is a major non-NATO Ally to the US and enemy of Iran. Additionally, didn’t we request Qatar to provide space for Hamas in their country for negotiations?

Everything seems to be a mess.
