    1. TOKYO, Sept 17 (Reuters) – Japan will not recognise a Palestinian state for the time being, and Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba will skip a relevant meeting during the United Nations General Assembly this month, the Asahi newspaper reported on Wednesday, citing unnamed government sources.

Japan’s stance would run counter to moves to recognise a Palestinian state by France, Britain and Canada – its Group of Seven peers – as well as Australia. The stance aligns Japan with the United States, Israel’s closest ally, which has rejected the idea of recognising a Palestinian state.

Within the G7, German and Italian officials have called an immediate recognition of Palestine „counterproductive“.

    2. I’m still wondering if the countries who are saying they will recognize Palestine with conditions will balk closer to the date knowing that those conditions will never be met.
(No Hamas and elections in 2026)

    3. The only right choice while Hamas is in charge and is in possession of the hostages.

    4. japan doesn’t exactly have a large muslim population to cater to, they have no need to take any sides in this issue. besides recognition *ON ITS OWN* will do nothing, the only thing that might deter israel is hard action, economic sanctions at minimum (though I personally support israel’s goal of defeating hamas completely, I do not support their actions to achieve that goal completely. I also don’t support sanctioning israel unless it’s specifically over the west bank settlements or Ben-Gvir and Smotrich being high level ministers with their stances, but that’s the bare minimum that any country interested in helping palestine besides with symbolic gestures should do).

    5. Based Japan, Currently there is nothing to recognize. Palestinians always refuse having a state as long as Israel exists.
