    1. >Since the 2024 elections, conservatives have been saying that “[comedy is legal again](https://www.theatlantic.com/newsletters/archive/2025/07/stephen-colbert-and-humor-trump-era/683625/).” But now they’re canceling anyone who doesn’t show the proper respect to slain rightwing operative Charlie Kirk. Their laughter over the deaths of LGBTQ+ people while acting aghast that anyone would say anything untoward about Kirk’s death is meant to be a display of power to force the rest of us to accept that some lives matter more than others.

      >Last month, rightwing comedian/podcaster [Alex Stein testified in the Texas Senate](https://www.lgbtqnation.com/2025/08/spectators-boo-right-wing-trolls-transphobic-speech-in-texas-senate/), where he mocked trans suicide victims.

      >“I actually like transgenders in the military,” Stein said in the state legislature. “The suicide rate is incredibly high among transgender people, so we could just use them. Like, the Taliban has suicide bombers. Maybe you guys can actually, you know, if you commit suicide, actually help us in the battlefield. So that would be good.”

      >He went on to call trans people “gargoyles,” and when some people started booing him for everything he was saying, he started shouting, “My First Amendment right! We’re sick of these transgenders!” He then claimed that trans people get “sexual satisfaction” from “looking under a stall” in the women’s room, which isn’t true at all. Perhaps it was meant to be a joke? It’s hard to tell since so much of right-wing “humor” is just repeating tired stereotypes, making it indistinguishable from run-of-the-mill hate speech.

      >Anyway, that story barely got any attention. A rightwing advocate testified *in a state’s legislature* that he loves the fact that a historically disenfranchised minority has a high suicide rate didn’t get much media attention because we’re so inured to conservatives saying incredibly offensive things all the time.

      >The trans people Stein mocked weren’t public figures and didn’t wish harm on others. In fact, they were a whole, diverse class of people who we will likely never know anything about. If anything, it seems more morally justifiable to publicly comment on Kirk’s death than on anonymous trans suicide victims.

      >But that’s not how Republicans are reacting to people who aren’t pretending to be sad about Kirk’s death. Instead, they want to use whatever power they have to crack down on people with a different opinion from theirs.

They laugh at trans peoples deaths, prisoner deaths, the deaths of POC at the hands of cops, people who make a mistake and ring the wrong doorbell, and myriad other deaths.

Hell, they even made fun of McCain when he passed, and he was one of them.

    3. I remember when Matt Walsh laughingly mocked Charlotte Fosgate’s suicide, bringing up the whole 40% statistic they love to throw at trans people, knowing Walsh and the likes of him are the reason why trans people have such a high suicide rate.

      [https://www.rollingstone.com/culture/culture-features/charlotte-fosgate-transphobia-memorial-queer-communities-1235351553/](https://www.rollingstone.com/culture/culture-features/charlotte-fosgate-transphobia-memorial-queer-communities-1235351553/)

No one on the right condemned Walsh. Better yet, they laughed alongside him.

Now, they want to make us seem bad for not crying Kirk is dead? GTFOH!

We know that the next instance a ClubQ or Pulse Massacre happens, the far-right will be cheering on the assailant.

One other thing. When trumps gone we need to look at these algorithms. Too many people think Charlie Kirk is just Christian community figure who enjoys debating.

Some of them don’t seem to have heard of the horrible shit he’s done. Christ he once sicced his loyal dogs on Miss Rachel the children’s performer. Not to mention saying civil rights was a mistake and Gay is an affront to god and what have you.

    5. Disastrous_Leg970 on

I thought that the anti-trans stuff was just bullying, but last month I had a political conversation with a guy I work with and when transgender people came up her erupted. Ended up with him actually shouting about god and how the government should shoot every transgender. It’s not just devaluing life, it’s an actual desire to eradicate a people.

I know this is just anecdotal, but it really brought to life an online-discourse that I thought was overblown.

The right have issued a national purity test, and it’s over pathetic, evil Charlie Kirk. Which is a true testament to how hollow their reasons are, which they use to hide their true motives.

    7. It’s how cults function, but don’t you dare accuse them of being in a cult 😆

    8. I maintain that liberals are the pro-life party across issues.
Republicans are only as pro-life as anti-abortion

    9. nasalevelstuff on

They also call parents of school shooting victims “crisis actors”

There is no floor for MAGAts

    10. They sure love pointing to their first amendment rights when saying awful racist bullshit, but once someone points out the irony that a pro gun bigot was killed by a gun they immediately want to punish them.

„1st Amendment for me but not for thee!“

It’s definitely highlighting the doublestandard in America.

Conservatives demand mass-censorship because Kirk’s death gives an example towards how the people will react when any of them passes on next.

I do not comply with the Child Rapist Pedophile Diddler Fürer regime. Fuck the complacency. We need a general strike last year and the guts to bring the classic french style of reminding individuals at the top what an angry mass with nothing left to lose looks like

maga troll kids love trolling more than anything so they’ll see this as an opportunity to troll the right even more bc it ends in blaming the left.

Donald Trump > Right wing podcasters > Hate mongering Televangelists > School children > blacks and Hispanics > anyone defying traditional social roles (gays, trans folks, women who work, etc) Something like that?

    15. AdHopeful3801 on

The maternal death rate is up in all those „pro-life“ states that banned abortion – to the point where some of them just stopped reporting it.

Charlie Kirk was straight, white, male, Christian, and right wing – literally the peak of the conservative value hierarchy. **Everyone else is lesser -** they go after transpeople so aggressively, because transpeople are too small a minority to fight back head to head, but women and all non-whites are in the crosshairs too.

I’m not sad. I think the violence is sad and we shouldn’t resort to it, but I won’t be missing his harmful messages.

    17. adminsrlying2u on

I seriously wouldn’t be surprised if Tyler Robinson is getting offered the Ghislaine Maxwell preferential treatment like life in prison if he releases a politically convenient narrative than lines up with the him being the victim of the true culprit, the „woke“!

    18. natural_disaster0 on

They also laughed at Californians homes being burned down, somehow even fire season has become political. But when their states experienced flooding, they told us to feel bad.

    19. MAGA can’t explain the hypocrisy on this one, even to themselves. People are just stop listening to the obvious bullshit right now and want some humanity, sanity and strong new leadership fast. We got government dogs running in the streets with Presidential power and US Sailors blowing up citizens of another country in boats in international waters.

These are the same people who DEMAND Memorial Rainbow Crosswalks be painted over. Let that SINK in.

One of the most horrible attacks on american soil against a marginalized group and they want to erase it from memory.

all while demanding respect for their faux martyr.

    21. WorkingRecording4863 on

As a trans person, I’m not as petty as the Republicans are when they laugh about people like me being murdered. I don’t believe Charlie Kirk deserved to be shot for exercising his 1st Amendment right. I may have not liked the man, and disagreed with pretty much everything he said, but violence is not the right answer.

They want to paint trans people as evil terrorists, and I’ve even heard us compared to ISIS and Al Qaeda… remember that the people saying this are the same party who regularly project their own personality onto others as a way to deflect criticism. They are the ones instigating and aggravating this situation, not trans people. Leave us the fuck alone.

    22. CranberrySchnapps on

This is the media’s moment to stand up to the right’s use of Kirk as a galvanizing moment. Right wing media is already trying to use his death to call for government crackdowns on liberal groups by stating all of the left is in some form lusting after violence while ignoring the murder of a Michigan state rep just a few months ago, the attack on the Pelosis, etc. Right wing outlets are trying to get people fired for saying *anything* negative about Kirk irrespective of Kirk’s own advocacy and positions. They are trying to use they to lunge towards authoritarianism.

I fear the media will fail to meet their moment.

Guys, you’re missing the bigger point here. Your life only inherently has value depending upon how much influence you have over bringing support to Donald Trump.

If you are a big YouTuber who supports Trump? You are a hero. If you are a far-right politician who is a big Trump supporter? Hero.

If you are a cop who defended the capital? Villain. If you are a cop who espouses Democratic viewpoints? Villain. If you are a service member who is left-leaning? Your service didn’t matter and you are evil.

If you are a kid, first responder, or other innocent person killed without justification? Your life didn’t matter unless it somehow was important to the talking points of the Republican party.

Time to wake up and see what’s going on here.

    24. They are acting like the pope died or their favorite celebrity. Anyway, I truly believe in a couple weeks they will hardly mention it. How about we get back to mentioning the Epstein files

    25. I don’t think until a few days ago a lot of MAGA shitheads even knew who Charlie Kirk was. Now they’ve been fed a pile of bullshit about him, and they swallow it whole, as y’know, Fox News always tells the truth. The cycle of hate and demands for revenge continues, and it’s all Democrats fault – even though the killer was from a Trump-voting family.

    26. And for the next ten years we’ll get, „they laughed at Charlie“ memes. Or whatever, as they stack the bodies.

I mean, that was going to happen anyway, but now they have a catchphrase.

    27. If Republicans are going to act like they are anti murder, they need to condemn the murder of those innocent people who were in the boat off of Venezuela, perpetrated by the Trump regime

    28. NergNogShneeg on

The right laughed about democrats being assassinated then demands we be upset about an abhorrent podcaster.

    29. Smallface Mcgee was a fascist agitator who wrapped himself in the flag and came thumping the bible, just like we always knew fascism would.
