I assume what gave it away to him is Donald Trump promising to use the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk as a pretext to crush his political opposition.. Which, y’know, happened already.
One of the reasons Democrats keep losing is that the right wing media machine is capable of taking an event, collecting a bunch of people’s hot takes, filtering them for what’s most useful to the Party, and putting that on blast to all the Party faithful all before the Dems even knew the original even might actually have a meaning for anyone.

Charlie Kirk was not a good person, but he didn’t deserve to die. Just because he died doesn’t mean I’m going to sanitize him or his legacy. He said some very awful things, and if I had died, he would have said that was a good thing just because I’m a liberal atheist. If the government wants to try to control my speech because I refuse to treat him like a martyr or saint, so be it; I’ll just choose to be louder.
This whole thing has proven to me that once again people on the right being surrounded by MAGA and a Mormon family will radicalize their own family into even more extremes. Instead, of people being honest they blame the blameless which is typical in an authoritarian government like we have now.
Theyre just using this as accelerant for their pre-existing plan. We still dont have the receipts on the shooter and we have the whitehouse and right wing media outlets making sweeping ideological proclamations that serve that plan. They are trying to manufacture consent. Its dangerous and it seems that those in control do not care about what happens if they continue to push the country in the direction theyre trying to push it into.
Using a free speech advocate’s death to end free speech is as 2025 as it gets.

I already thought they’re not going to seat any new dems from the next midterm elections. I just thought their excuse was going to be “all the illegals voting” etc. but now they’re probably going to add because of “the lefts violence”
If a dem takes over for a dem, a gop taking over for a dem and gop for gop will all be honored, but any seat that was gop and will then supposed to be dem will get denied access to the capital grounds. And then any that come from states with red governors will see those governors appoint replacements from their party that will replace the elected democrat.
Even Reddit is being a bit touchy about this.
I got a “Rule 1” warning for posting something related to this yesterday and the content was removed. First time that’s happened to me in four years.
I appealed it, it was reviewed, and the warning was rescinded and content reinstated.
But still, the filters are hypersensitive.
Well, that’s only gonna make things worse for them. I had no idea who Charlie Kirk was until he was killed. Now I think he’s some dickhead that would’ve approved the laws that allowed his own murder. They’re gonna have a hard time punishing me for supporting Charlie Kirk’s position on that.
Imagine if we had Trump and/or social media in 2001? No chance we would have united. Even if it was a false patriotism, it’s better than where we are now.
Charlie is rolling over in his grave right now over the big government censorship regime that is being rolled out in his name. Sad.
There’s no real evidence that the person living with the shooter was trans. The roommate and the shooter have public social media accounts and didn’t interact at all on them. They’re not even friends with each other online. You can go and see for yourself. The roommate also has given information to the feds that has all been extremely unreliable. And the fact that they are roommates is also a red herring, because the landlord was renting them out room by room. There are ads you can find for their apartment where the landlord was renting them out individually. So they are two people who happened to rent rooms in the same apartment.

And yet the Governor of Utah is going on the record to say that the roommate is definitely trans and they are definitely dating each other. Then they are saying therefore they are left wing. There is no information in any of these claims, the Republican Governor is just asserting it based on the DailyMail article which largely made wild extrapolations based on the roommate. And fucking NYT and PBS are running major headlines declaring that the shooter is left wing and the actual article just says „because the Governor said so and there is actually no evidence put out about that“

I don’t pretend to know his motivations, but basically it seems like a major messaging strategy by the GOP to accuse him of being on the left in headlines as fast as possible with no evidence. We do know that he is from a Republican family in Utah, a big fan of guns and posts on 4chan a lot. We also know that the roommate is not connected on any social media with the shooter and that being trans does not automatically make you on the left. The entire evidence for the shooter being on the left seems to be that the roommate is trans which has yet to be proven either. And now the Trump administration is going to try to crack down on the „left“ when it’s frankly more likely that the shooter was a groyper or completely politically indecipherable.
Crushing the dissent is a feature for them, not a bug. Kirk had his value before, but he’s got way more potential value for them as a martyr. It’s important he not become one and the understanding of who he was and what he stood for does not become clouded/romanticized.
Nothing new. The Heritage cult has been trying to crush dissent for decades. They’ve managed to take the Supreme Court through hook and crook. They’ve managed to gerrymander their way to winning the congress and people were stupid enough to fall for the culture wars that gave them the Presidency. They’ve been trying to „Crush Dissent“ for a long time.
Just like I’ll never understand how Trump was the beacon for conservatives to rally behind, I’ll never understand how Kirk is what they choose to rally behind instead when thousands of kids have died to gun violence.
How about we get back to demanding the Epstein files
This was always the plan, MAGA is largely a white supremacist movement and the key there is the ’supremacist‘ part. They believe in a strict hierarchical social order and they truly do not believe in equality in law or society. *They* will tell you how to act in all aspects of your life and in society and if you ‚get out of place‘ by not doing as you’re told they will ‚punish‘ you for that.
Conservatives and the white supremacist Tech Bros about to make China’s Social Credit system look quaint by comparison though.
I wish there was an 2nd party that was willing to truly fight against the rising tide of fascism.

Honestly these conservative attempts to act like the shooter represented the liberal community are laughable. He was one guy acting by his own accord. They’re just mad he went out the way he did, and if there’s one concept conservatives seem to understand, it’s war.
We didn’t go easy on Hitler when he died. What’s with people commenting similar stuff about Charlie? Outside of a few sickos … noone is really celebrating another human’s death. Hope of relief from the hate/aggression as a result of said person’s actions is usually what is celebrated, and often conflated for celebration of human life loss.
I didn’t want him shot, but I’m not going to act like I don’t understand why someone would try to hurt him after he’s spent the past decade trying as hard as he can to anger people. This didn’t come out of nowhere, when forced to face what happened I can’t say I’m entirely shocked that it happened.
I can be louder about Kirk being a prick if it helps.
Kirk’s murder was right on right violence but it doesn’t matter because the right is so indoctrinated that they just go along with whatever they’re told to by their leaders.
That’s why most can’t tell you „why“ they believe something if you ask them! [Try it sometime! Its quite creepy] You just get talking points because they didn’t form their belief system after careful consideration of facts.
Basically what I’m saying is it doesn’t matter what the reason is! Their leaders tell them what to feel and their leaders have gotten impatient waiting for an excuse to go to war against everyone else.
I’m personally done trying to talk and reason with these folks. Everyone needs to start advocating for a splitting of the country. Let conservatives have their theocracy, and let leftists have their society based on empathy and science-based policy decisions.
I don’t condone people losing their jobs or having any type of consequence whatsoever for free speech on their own time. We can all agree Kirk dying was tragic and an awful thing we no longer want to see in our communities – but we aren’t going to be forced to worship MAGA idols.
MAGA has decided to create a system of oppression through social media regarding Charlie Kirk. While not outright against the law, you will face consequences if you do not worship this man. If you like, comment, or utter a word against Kirk, there will be consequences. I implore people to start using this system of oppression against the oppressors NOW before it becomes normalized for everything.
If you know a MAGA who has been vitriolic towards people with differing opinions, download a VPN, create a new email unattached to your life, create a Facebook using this MAGAs name and photos, leave comments disagreeing with Kirk’s views, screenshot, and send anonymously to their place of work.
If you think that’s an awful thing to do (you should), it’s all the more reason to start doing it. They are creating a system of oppression. They are cheering because they created this oppressive system to silence the left. But their system is stupid. Use it against them until it can no longer be weaponized.
