Crazy huh? First election held under the threat of our closest neighbour and world historical super power threatening to annex us via a campaign of economic coercion. Great news though, that had absolutely no effect on the election. Neither did the sitting U.S. President for the first time ever expressing an explicit preference for who Canadians should elect as their leader.
It changed the outcome in a a way that a child could tell you. It was guaranteed win for conservatives based on how badly liberals messed up until trump opened his mouth.
Since most of you won’t read the article: “Chief Electoral Officer Stéphane Perrault said Monday that unlike the federal election in 2021, no incidents were detected involving foreign countries trying to interfere the administration of this spring’s election.”
*In other news, the office of Elections Canada in Gatineau has been asked to stop prank calling 911. Sources say that various numbers from within the building keep dialing the emergency line and trying to order pizzas to the office building. Operaters report these prank calls seem to repeat the address over and over again, and insist that they don’t hang up.*
But seriously, we just saw nearly two million voters break from the NDP to vote LPC, and most of them report the number one reason being their concern over the CPC’s perceived closeness to the USA. At a time when:
– Our national sovereignty was being questioned by a foreign power
– The foreign interference inquiry was one of the biggest scandals, including specific parties disagreeing about what it should and shouldn’t include, raising suspicions
– One leader’s lack of clearance was a major campaign issue
– One party’s nomination race rules were completely rewritten to remove the fears of foreign interference allegations
– Nearly all private news in Canada is foreign owned
*What do you mean* foreign interference didn’t impact the election? It dictated the paths of everyone involved, and we have every reason to believe that this issue swung the results of this election. Just because no foreign powers directly hacked us doesn’t mean it wasn’t a factor. Between these issues and the BS about press clearances, scrum questions at debates, and third party organizations splitting themselves up for more influence, this entire election was about access to information.
