Its because you have to post it back yourself.
They should take it off you the day in court.
My brother got suspended and just never got around to sending it back.
When he suspension was done he just claimed that he had posted it back to them, and must have been lost in the post.
Yet another example of why roads policing has all but completely ceased to happen. We live in a country where the guards can’t be arsed doing the simple stuff like stopping the boy racers using the illegal grey numberplates to fool speed cameras and evade penalty points. They aren’t going to do more difficult stuff like go looking for driving licences.
What happens if the person didn’t have a licence in the first place?

It’s almost like a physical piece of paper or plastic is a terrible solution in 2025, if only there was some sort of electronic device that everybody had on their person at all times that could be used to store things like details of a persons license, tax and innsurance.
