The 193-member world body approved a nonbinding resolution endorsing the „New York Declaration,“ which sets out a phased plan to end the nearly 80-year conflict. The vote was 142-10 with 12 abstentions. The United States was one of the 10 states that voted against.

It’s the only sensible solution, but Palestinians have rejected it several times, and post Oct 7th I can’t imagine many Israelis going for it either. It’s the farthest away it’s been in generations. So the fighting and bloodshed will continue for generations to come.

If the vote were about destroying Israel and expelling Jews from their land, the council would likely vote in favor.

Someone should tell Hamas, I’m sure they want a two state solution right?

Two of the countries who are totally disinterested in a two state solution:
– Palestine
– Israel
Not much else really matters.

Genius! I can’t believe no one has thought of this before, like in 74 or 93 or 00 or 13, or any of the years between. Those boys at the UN have done it again! Let’s all celebrate by shitting on the US for being one of the few mildly sensible members to acknowledge that maybe right now isn’t the best time to put this particular change into effect.

There won’t be a two state solution if nobody stops Israel from destroying one of the states.

How brave… pass a nonbinding resolution, with no feasible plan of execution, no ability to enforce, and no chance of being accepted by any of the parties in question. Is there nothing more useful we can do with the prime Manhattan real estate they host these circle jerks in?

What is the solution, that they are going to use to have the 2 states, Hamas is running Gaza.

Including the Palestinian „right“ of return (factually there is no such thing) which aims to destroy Israel. Any state that voted in favour of this must be considered openly antisemitic.

Some states that claim to be pro-Palestine like Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Bolivia, and Venezuela did not vote. This was likely because the resolution condemned the Oct. 7 attacks*, called for the Palestinian state to be without Hamas*, and called for a two-state solution between Israel and Palestine.
*(The first and second items were done indirectly, via endorsement of the „New York Declaration,“ while the third was directly stated in the resolution.)

Couldn’t they have just had an overwhelming vote for a two state solution before now and avoided the whole October 7th stuff altogether?
Glad they got it all sorted now though. /s
Oh good. Glad the UN finally solved this one.
Oh, ok.
