Did we ever end up using this anyway?
But yes, another blatant example of corruption.
Wallonia just really, really, really wanted to showcase they are against bullying. They even added another dot to Ketnet’s logo.
That is one way of spending a shit load of money and not getting anything meaningful in return.
That’s just typical Walloon behaviour, isn’t it? Pissing away money they don’t have…
200k per dot, easy money for the designer
Someone had a friend that’s a graphic designer…
Dot´s money not well spent IMO.
I’ll start to make some logo, I can go up to 6 points for a million euros, a bargain!
1mill?? I would’ve made it for half of that…
Putting aside this particular design:
I dream of one, unified visual design for all ministries and public agencies in Belgium, like in Netherlands or Czechia. One, simple, clean design. Would be amazing.
Port of Antwerp paid half a million of euros for more or less the same logo they already had. But mostly it’s not only simply the design of the logo itself.
In Flanders, we would already pay a significant portion of that amount just to have Deloitte or another consulting firm conduct a study before even assigning the project to a marketing studio.
SPRINGFIELD = GOOD
It’s not that easy. You still need to place the dot in the right position and a dot is easily misplaced.
Hey Flanders, if you need a new logo, I got some ideas. Only 600K. (it’s three dots)
It’s all nice and trendy, until someone comes along with a 6 dot logo.
That’s actually a fair price.
Are the people finding that 1m abusive „politically motivated“ or just ignorants?
It’s just a fair price. If the job was correctly done, tons of people have been consulted at several stages of the redesign. Making sure no existing copyright infringements were possible isn’t easy neither. Then really designing it etc.
And hey, these 5 dots are actually genius. Recognisable, simple, 5 provinces and it makes a W. That’s not at all a shit design.
Connect the dots?
En we paid a lot of taxmoney for dewevers weightloss
Love the logo, but still a crime lol
If any minister is in this thread, please be aware that I am an expert in dots and straight as well as curved lines. I have a specialty in Bs, which could be appropriate for „Belgium“ or „Brussels“. I will bestow my mastery upon your cabinet for the very cheap price of 200 000 € per dot or line. You won’t find a better deal on the market.
Nah, this one is more accurate ( . )
Laughs in korneel from oosterweel
Is it the logo only? Or a housestyle redesign?
i like it, not sure if worth a mill tho :p
This is a one-off price. Normally, for using a graphic in a commercial setting, you would licence it and pay per use. Now imagine every letter that the Walloon government sends out and they would have to pay 1 eurocent for using the logo. That would end up costing much more. So the upfront 1 million looks a lot but longterm, it’s a bargain.
Also, although the logo looks simple, it takes lots of iterations to get to the final design. This is the face of the government so it has to look good. It has to work on different formats (online, print, tv, ..) so the designers have to take those elements into account. It’s not as simple as just drawing 5 dots.
I thought this was some elaborate hoax but nope. What’s the difference with Wallonie.be and visitwallonia.be? They all claim to be official. You also have wbi.be which has eight dots.
Rtbf site said the logo cost 534k, not 1 million.
If you hadn’t told me the dots formed a W i wouldn’t have seen it.
People are very cynical about logo changes and their cost, but there’s a lot of work behind the scenes with these things. There’s brand research, developing, testing, etc, for over a couple of months, and the people working these jobs (usually low-paid graphic designers) have to be paid. A logo is often not just a logo itself, there’s a whole brand behind it: from the toilet signage to letter heads, everything should fit. And all of it has to be designed. Afterwards you might have to license fonts or develop proprietary fonts, replace all livery, prints, signage, etc., it makes more sense that these things cost a ton of money. Is this the most exciting logo? Probably not. But it is a normal price for a new brand.
