Pressure seems to be mounting. What’s clear is Starmer either lacks judgement or is not in full control of no.10, or both. Most governments wait a few years or another term before getting to this point with scandals.
Interesting part of the article is that whilst he’s been dismissed from his role, he remains on the government payroll. There’s some suggestion Mandelson might get revenge on the government and won’t go quietly.
I really had low expectations for the success of the labour government, I knew they’d have a hard time standing with the migration stuff and the usual hostile media. But never did I expect them to literally just start sawing their own legs off like this.
For the record I hate reform, like I really do think they’ll be awful in government, but this government has basically done nothing but lay the red carpet out for them with their utter unbridled incompetence. I really do just despair at the current state of affairs, I never thought things would get so depressing so quickly.

Clearly the Labour Parliamentary MPs have had enough and want Starmers head.

I think Starmer should postpone the visit by Trump, using a polite excuse. The EU and other democratic countries should do the same. Eventually, Trump will get the message no one wants to see him, because of the Epstein dark cloud over his head. I am not suggesting any kind of boycott of the United States, only a personal boycott of Donald Trump.
McSweeney needs to go, he’s been chief of staff and responsible for comms installing all his own loyalists in number ten and pushing Sue Gray out.
Heads need to fucking roll for this and if Starmer won’t do it the MPs need to vote somebody in who will clean house.
If they don’t we won’t ever get better for a long while, the working people of this country will be condemned to a reform government and a hostile takeover from within, working people will suffer as a result
Controversial opinion – Peter Mandelson was a good appointment for Trump. He runs in the same circles as Trump and his relationship helped secure the lowest tariffs that the US imposed, as well as help maintain a cordial relationship between the UK and the US during a time when the US is pushing away all their allies. They could have easily done the same or worse to us, see the high tariffs they imposed on Switzerland for no apparent reason.
Obviously we shouldn’t tolerate his relationship with Epstein but the country’s interest should always be a priority. And we’re living in a chaotic time where the leader of the free world is an elderly childish autocrat-wannabe who can’t take no for an answer. The reality is that we are bounded to the US, militarily and culturally, and we should maintain good relations with the US to help steer it globally.
He did serve as a good ambassador to the US. And now who would be as good as him? Trump is a man who does things man-to-man, and the choice of the ambassor has to be someone who can hold Trumps respect.
Obviously Starmers factional right wing beliefs led him to chose a mate in the „old boys club“. Maybe its time for a more centralist based leader. Someone that does have a peerage bias. Maybe someone with a rational view of how actual their other English voters are suffering?
