Unless there’s a miracle with artificial photosynthesis, the long-term future includes nuclear. We should keep some reactors going to maintain the savoir-faire if nothing else.
To make hydrogen from water all you need is heat. That hydrogen can then be used to synthesize hydrocarbons for fuels or industry or plastics, or it can be used to make ammonia for fertilizer. Many of the things fossil fuels are currently used for, and to which renewables have no real alternative yet. It’s theoretically possible to synthesize these things with electricity-driven heat from renewables but the efficiency is terribly low. If only there were a technology that could produce almost limitless industrial process heat. We could synthesize everything we need.

Jaysus no, this is rejecting NDP principles by supporting nuclear power.
– Hyper-centralisation
– Huge costs borne by the government despite cheaper alternatives
– Increased security risks
– Lack of suitable locations (and even then, fighting to force this onto those communities)
