P.S I am not pro-israel, i am pro-cyprus and any defence systems provided by other countries that could thwart any threat from turkey are welcomed

How embarrassing for the EU that little Cyprus (EU member) has to buy defence systems from Israel to defend itself from the EUs favourite non-EU country Turkey. The EU has been pampering & ignoring Turkeys crimes against Cyprus & Greece for decades now. EU commissioner was outraged that Russia sent drones into Poland & said the EU will defend every inch of EU territory. This is hilarious as the EU has been ignoring Turkish jets flying over Greek islands for years!!!!
Reading between the lines: Cyprus wants to *show* Turkey that it has strong allies, and is getting stronger to fend off any attacks.
Probable target audience: this is just to press Turkey to accept a reasonable solution. Also this is more of a psychological boost for Cypriots to feel good about the president and foreign investors than a defense system that’ll see actual use ever, to feel that Cyprus is safe and come to create more companies to combat deflation.
Also why now, and not when russian sanctions were initially put in place (that’s when Cyprus‘ previous defense system became obsolete)? Defense contracts take time, but not almost 4 years since the implementation of the Russian sanctions. And so close to the cyprob negotiations mind you. It’s just a show. If turkey understands this – and probably does so – it shouldn’t feel threatened or change its cyprob policy one bit.
Also: Cyprus in the years after covid has consistently showed a huge budget surplus which doesn’t make sense to have and not spend at least some money on something like defense in this case.
