It’s pretty nuts that the ndp still haven’t realized that their best path to power or influence is through Quebec, the most economically left wing province. Instead, they almost exclusively cater to the policy preferences of english urban progressives
At this point the CPC is probably more invested in the NDP getting a strong leader than the actual remains of the NDP who are basically adrift.
I think this would hamper their already limited talent pool too much. The heart of the party is in the West and they should reflect that. The 2011 Quebec vote was a fluke that won’t be repeated, regardless of how many times Ruth Ellin Brosseau runs in Bethier-maskinonge
It is interesting how much bilingualism for leaders is emphasised, given that the number of people who *only* know French has been steadily decreasing over several decades. Seems like the wrong thing to fixate on
Quite frankly if the federal NDP leader cannot speak french they would be eaten alive in any french language debate (might as well as not show up).
French isn’t important for all Canadians, but for the job of a federal party leader it is a must. Their whole deal is communication.
