    1. I wouldn’t be surprised if Trump slapped new tariffs, maybe even economic sanctions, over this.

What’s it like living in a country with a functioning democracy and rule of law?

As a Brazilian (I live in Germany, but I lived some time during Bolsonaro’s presidency in Brazil) I need to say that I’m very relieved for this. Bolsonaro was such a bad president and he didn’t mind at all with COVID in Brazil. In fact he just did everything that he could so Brazil couldn’t fight against COVID and a lot of people died.

And please, don’t think that Brazil is different from the US. This is one of the first times in Brazil that I see justice. Brazil justice system is a shame. Probably one of the worst in the whole world.

The world is proud of you, Brazil. Showing everyone the proper way to deal with these creatures.

If we had a real Supreme Court, Trump would have been found guilty of sedition and a coup.

      >Bolsonaro’s sentence is expected to be set on Friday after the remaining judge, Cristiano Zanin, has cast his vote. Experts say the sentence for crimes including engineering a coup d’état and violently attempting to abolish Brazil’s democracy could be as high as 43 years.

Damn he’s going to die in prison.

not only did the supreme court let the GOP, MAGA, and Trump get away with the insurrection, they aided him in a complete fascist takeover.

the 6 fascist judges in this SCOTUS are fascist judges and are part of the coup.

Whatever side people are on politically, a former president being convicted of plotting a coup is something Brazil hasn’t seen in decades. The fact that the institutions held up under that kind of pressure is remarkable, but it’s clear Bolsonarismo isn’t going away anytime soon

But do they know that Trump asked them not to, or he’s going to tariff them bigly?

Maybe they don’t have Temu Twitter.

    11. Some people will say it was political persecution. Don’t believe that. This was a lengthy process with years of evidence gathering and he was given a full right to defense.

    12. America, this is our history should have been.

Merrick Garland failed us and now we may lose our democracy.

This is what the GOP led Senate was unwilling to do to one of its own…and this just affirms why US style democracy is a sham and truly hypocritical primarily.

When a side will refuse to police its own crime, you cannot call yourself a democracy. It is hypocrisy

    14. As much as I’m happy that he’ll finally be held responsible for at least some of the crimes he committed against Brazil, and its people. I think it’s worth reminding ourselves that the fight to protect Brazilian democracy isn’t over. This is almost half time, we’re just waiting for the arbiter to blow the whistle before we take the half time break. The actual fight that will determine if Brazil survives as a democracy will be the election next year.

      The Bolsonaro’s family have already made it clear that any candidate that gets their support for the presidential election will have to fully support not only the amnesty bill that the far right is trying to push through congress, but also an eventual and inevitable break with the supreme court when said bill gets declared unconstitutional;

Bolsonaro spent a good portion of his term in office flirting with the idea of going to war with the supreme court, thus causing a full own constitutional crisis in Brazil, there will be no more flirting with this idea, they will just do it.
