We have a deal. It’s called CUSMA.
His tariffs are illegal, why is lack of a “deal” painted as a bad thing?
It’s extortion.
Not to mention the laughable “deals” other countries seem to have agreed to where tariffs remain anyway.
Carney hasn’t said this, but Doug Ford has said it enough times that I absolutely believe the stumbling block in negotiations here has been control of our resources. Americans want open access to everything from our water to our oil to our rare earth elements.
Obviously, this is a non-starter for us and Carney probably told Trump it was a non-starter way back in March. That’s why there’s been little movement on these negotiations other than the occasional update that Carney and Trump once again talked on the phone for 5 minutes and it was „a good discussion“.
So basically socialism for the wealthy business class and austerity for the rest of us. I guess it’s elbows up for the rich and knee pads and lube for the working class.
Also, where are the houses? Last I checked you can have an overpriced shoebox condo or crippling unrestricted rent.
If we take the US to arbitration with the WTO – which we should do, the tarrifs are illegal under CUSMA – and they refuse to pay up, it is going to be the historical watermark for the end of this era of globalisation.
