I see a lot of „reduced“ beef at the store. But it’s not „reduced“ enough to what I would consider a reasonable price point. I imagine it goes unsold. How much of this beef gets just thrown away because nobody is buying it for the price they’re selling?

It’s more like 30-40% near me. 10% would barely be noticeable. Even „cheap“ cuts are expensive now.

Newsome will be the nominee because he is the only one taking a real position of leadership among the dems. Some progressives have been vocal and AOC in particular will have my vote in the primary if she decides to run, only because she was speaking up early on when literally nobody else would.
But Gavin seems to understand the media environment, the cultural moment, and the political one the best. Thats going to count for alot. And JD Vance may be good on TV but he will have 4 years of the worst record to run on. ‚I love Trump the mostest‘ doesnt win elections.

There are a lot of reasons for beef increases not just tariffs (which are playing a part in it as imports would deal with some of the related issues). First US beef cattle stocks were relatively low coming into the year due to a long term persistent drought in much of the American southwest that limited cattle stock, normally US ranchers import cattle stock from Mexico but the outbreak of screwworm has meant that for agricultural health reasons those imports have been stopped ergo US beef stocks remaining lower and with higher tariffs on Brazil one of the leading global beef producers prices in the US are thus bound to go up but more complex than just tariffs as also the domestic pressures and the screw worm preventing imports from closer nations or Mexico (which wouldn’t be affected by tariffs per se).

The price of beef was actually down 1400% but the Dems started poisoning cattle to disrupt the supply and drive costs up. They are willing to MURDER animals just to spite our president! I’ve definitely notice the price of meat product have gone up a noticeably amount at my local Costco in ABQ. A marinated 2 lb tenderloin previously cost $17-22 now it’s $32-36. The large salmon filet was $17-25 now it’s $40-44. Ive seen the same with several other cuts of meats and poultry. The only thing seemingly still the same price is sausages.
This was the first time in a while where I looked at our grocery cart and total and was like “what?”. We pretty consistently buy the same staples and it’s is definitely feeling like we are getting less for more. I found myself walking around the store going “wow not gonna get that”.
Honestly if this gets people to stop eating beef it’ll be the best thing Trump has done.

Egg prices fell because a short-term bird flu shock ended, but beef prices are tied to long production cycles (cattle take years to raise), drought and feed costs, and herd size reductions. Supply constraints take far longer to adjust than in the poultry industry. Treating them as parallel cases oversimplifies and conflates unrelated market dynamics.
I was checking Costco prices in my area, I frequently bought the whole loin for $10/lb, now it’s $15/lb per pound.
I only eat red meat occasionally because it’s so resource intensive, but comparatively the $20-30/lb picanha I get from my local butcher is a better deal, so is the A5 wagyu from the Asian market for $70/lb.
The price increase has been largely to cheap beef, higher end hasn’t moved much.

11% is a conservative estimate. I’ve watched higher end cuts go up nearer 25% in the last 9 months or so.
I was food shopping in Aldi the other day and while I was off to the side, checking my list I saw several people pick up ground beef, look at the price, and put it back.
Ground beef went from 6.99 a year ago to now 9.99 at Ralphs in Los Angeles.

I’ll say… honestly the price of beef isn’t something Trump has a huge influence on. Droughts and a lack of breeding stock have from what I understand been the largest problems.
That being said, Trump assumed responsibility for fixing it so when he fails that’s on him.
Also 11% even on average seems so low. Kroger was at 4.99/lb for nearly a decade and now the same quality and line is 8.49 without a coupon or anything and it’s still creeping up.
