Why are people figuring this out just now? I could have written this article before the election. Hell, I could have written this four years ago during and after his first term. The damage is already done. Firing half the people who make the government function is crippling enough. Target the scientific community for expulsion? Forcing companies and universities to pay or give up their patents? Department of War? Gulf of the United States? The damage will take more than decades. It will take generations, if at all recovery is possible.

I comment to clarify that my up vote for the post is NOT a celebration of the rise of nazism, but a stand against it.

While comparing to nazism may be accurate in many ways I unfortunately don’t think it’s effective. It’s unlikely that there will be war on that scale and holocaust on that scale, and people sense that and therefore doesn’t think the comparison is valid.

It’s more likely that US becomes like Orban’s Hungary, a hopelessly rigged corrupt „democracy“ where Republicans cannot lose, but an ineffective opposition is still allowed to keep up appearances. In terms of wars, we’ll see what happens if/when annexation of Greenland and Canada goes forward. I think largest wars is more likely to be due to China and Russia no longer fearing the US so they go ahead with their desired land grabs.

    5. When Nobel Prize winners are literally spelling it out, maybe it’s time to stop pretending this is just ‘politics as usual.’

    6. The problem with the analogy of Hitler is that it’s been so overused and overdone over the years. It’s definitely accurate in this circumstance, but unless you’re paying attention (which many are not) you might be inclined to roll your eyes at “yet another” Hitler comparison. I think a large chunk of people either don’t care or are unable to comprehend when it’s genuinely happening rather than yet another exaggeration.

    7. Well, as Vance said during the VP debate:

      >“A lot of those same economists attacked Donald Trump’s plans, and they have PhDs, but they don’t have common sense and they don’t have wisdom,”

Republicans have convinced their base that common sense ideas based on their gut feeling, informed or not, has a wisdom the educated lack.

These laureates may be accomplished, but families like the Paxwells from Apache Junction, Arizona know the quality of an individual with a handshake, not books.

How’s that common sense economy going?
