I wonder how we rate our partners after exposure to porn of our partners.
How was the study performed?
Did they ask men if porn changed their perception of their partner?
Where did they draw their sample?
All these questions and just a clickbait science article.
Makes sense i mean ive heard the argument of women upset when their spouse brings up somrthing they saw in a porn. Like kids that wanna recreate what they see on tv.
This is interesting. It looks like the study was looking at short time periods (ie, immediately after viewing the material), but it makes you also wonder what the longer-timeframe effects are, and how quickly participants return to their baseline.
Not when your wife is hot and does all those things.
Porn creates an unrealistic expectation that someone might want to have sex with me.
pnc is the foundation for this perception.
Sounds like an experiment designed around a conclusion rather than a hypothesis. Relied on self-reporting and didn’t normalize as far as I read on relationship or sex life health. I’m willing to bet that a study normalizing on happy, content sex lives would see a noticeably less significant difference.
But this study doesn’t differentiate between porn and other kinds of content, like modeling photos. Is it specifically porn that’s causing altered perceptions, or simply having seen other women? What if it was gay porn? Would it still have that effect?
You could also take the headline as saying that men are less picky when they’re sexually interested in their partner and that post nut clarity drops how they rate their partner back to baseline levels. IMO any further studies should have better control groups.
So they confirmed „post-nut clarity“? Nice.
Funny. For me it’s the opposite. I find the women in porn to be a lot less good looking than the women I date in real life.
„Surprisingly, the pornographic film did not appear to affect sexuality-related outcomes like sexual desire, fantasy, or permissiveness. Participants across all three groups reported similar scores on these dimensions, suggesting that short-term exposure to sexually explicit material may not shift people’s broader sexual attitudes or behaviors—at least in a single session.“
The study didn’t really show that pornographic content has this effect. The problem is that it’s entirely possible that a non-pornographic movie featuring a similar ensemble of physically attractive people would’ve had a similar effect.
The non-porn pirate-movies mentioned do not really have this, in particular Pirates of the Caribbean has only two women among the roles worth mentioning; and depending on which clip from it was shown, they might not even have been shown at all.
In other words it’s possible that it’s simply exposure to a varied cast of attractive people which has this effect, rather than porn specifically.
I think a more reasonable experiment would’ve been to compare a pornographic and non-pornographic movie featuring the same selection of people in both. (but I realize such pairs are more difficult to find!)
I’m wondering if they took into consideration emotional maturity as part of their study? Men who never got past puberty emotionally are much different in their outlook from men who have a maturity level on par with their chronological ages.
