    1. I get why it exists, and why scrapping it is not a good idea, but there is no way that program can continue the way it is. It needs a major overhaul.

If he doesn’t do big reforms in this space and I am talking Temporary Foreign Worker Program/LMIA Process, International Mobility Program/PGWP, International Student Program, and other federal and provincial program equivalents that over time have had more and more issues being about exploitation for cheap labour than I think we are going to see some of the rampant hatred for Trudeau start to really creep into the Carney government in a big way.

Things like this turn the independents off in a big way as well. There is a lot of animosity about these issues from all sections of the political spectrum in Canada.

This is a strategic mistake on a scale that is hard to comprehend. There are already people digging up video from when Mark Carney was running the BoC admitting that foreign workers drive down wages and negatively impact productivity.

Mark Carney is not the skilled politician that Justin Trudeau is. If he attempts to tell people that the sky isn’t blue and water isn’t wet, as his predecessor did, he’s not going to get away with it nearly as long as Justin did. The unemployment rate is now above 7%, youth unemployment is at a crisis level, and the Liberals seem determined to double down on a program that the Prime Minister has admitted drives down wages.

      Massive, massive mistake. Tone deaf.

If business if fighting for it you know its bad for Canadians. The only place where it should be used is in farming. That is what it was originally intended for. When Carney was governor of bank or canada he said it shouldn’t be used for low wage workers as it would suppress wages. This isn’t an attack on Liberals its an attack on a horrible policy that has been screwing Canadians.

It’s not just TFWs. They’re only a part of the broader problem. PGWPs, the IMP. Foreign students and their ability to work. These all need reform

If I recall correctly, it was the Harper government that created this program and even Harper has since expressed regrets.

At minimum the TFWP needs serious reform
