Honestly,if they listed job numbers that bad publicly, it’s probably 10x worse than that.

    2. Redshirt_Welshy_Nooo on

Huh, go figure. Dedicated career public servants still take their jobs seriously since they understand that real data is essential for real economic planning.

    3. Whomp,whomp.

Turns out, while you can bully the BLS chief, you can’t just bully the job market.

It’s almost like Trump and the „economists“ he is getting his horrible advice from don’t know what the fuck they’re doing.

Trump’s policies are leading us into recession, he’s kicking people off of health insurance and denying them vaccines, he’s destroying the rule of law, he’s being played for a fool by Putin..but he’s going to call the Department of Defense the Department of War! America is great again!

      Pathetic.

    5. ThingCalledLight on

No, but Trump said these aren’t the “real” numbers either so it can’t be true. It simply can’t be. /s

Don’t worry Comrades. Soon we will have 💯percent employment just like in East Germany back in the day.

    7. Someone better quick make Trump some pretend graphs to hold up! We don’t want his ego bruised!

There’s plenty of signs all around us that the economy is already crashing, or is at least just about to. This is just another sign.

Who knew the previous Director had been tweaking the estimates in his favor all along.

    10. >On Friday morning, the BLS reported that nonfarm payroll employment rose by only 22,000 in August.

      2022 august added 315,000
      2023 august added 187,000
      2024 august added 142,000

this year’s jobs numbers aren’t just an unforced error, they’re actively self-inflicted by tariffs. this absolute idiot is creating a recession out of whole cloth because he’s too fucking stupid to understand basic economics and the adults have all left the room.

this *still* won’t be enough to convince americans that republicans aren’t better on the economy than democrats, lmao.

Hi, Newsweek, the firing of the BLS Chief had fuck all to do with Trump’s shitty performance and jobs numbers.

You suck at headline writing and editing.

„technical difficulties“ = They were trying to fudge the numbers at the last minute to make them look better

He should have been able to make up his own numbers. Isn’t that why he keeps firing the experts? Jesus, he can’t even do that right. What a class A wanker.

    15. trickmirrorball on

This is what he wants so rates will be lowered. They don’t care about jobs.

    16. And those are: „You are going to be fired if you don’t make me happy“ numbers.

    17. > Abysmal job numbers

Well, the Fed has no choice but to lower interest rates now. Trump is such a genius.

If they don’t , Fed governors will be arrested by Bondi on ginned up charges.

Either way, it’s a win for the Trump!

      /s

    18. AdCharacter7966 on

These numbers are fake. Reality is much, much worse. All numbers are now approved by Trump

Buckle up and brace for impact!

    19. Intelligent-Brain836 on

The latest jobs report indicates someone else is getting fired today.

    20. Here is my scary prediction.

Trump keeps poking foreign nations like Venezuela until there is an event, likely small, but enough for a thin justification to declare war. Doesn’t matter why or who.

He declares a national emergency, and reinstates the draft.

Young men are given the choice to fight or serve in other ways. The other ways include farm work and construction.

We now have replaced the deported migrants with selective service “employees”. These “jobs” are counted towards positive job numbers. Trump has a pool of cheap forced labor. He points to high employment as a good thing he accomplished.

    21. ThyShirtIsBlue on

Just keep firing your BLS chief, then represent each one as a unique new job opening, and eventually you’ll get the figure you want.

    23. Hayseussforever on

Maybe trump should bring back the BLS chief that he fired. Not only is the August report abysmal, but the June report has been revised to show a negative; that is, the economy not only did not create job but actually lost jobs. And the unemployment rate is also up a tick. The chickens are coming home to roost and the numbers really don’t lie. Real improvement will not be shown in a year from now, but in a year form 2029 when a successor administration has had a chance to repair some of the damage left by the worst President in our history.

    24. phoneacct696969 on

He wanted this so he could lower interest rates and look like he’s doing good for the economy. He didn’t know he wanted this until after he fired the bls chief lol.

    25. They literally carved a new subsection of government to wipe out government jobs at higher cost than paying salaries. So yeah, of course the figures looks abysmal

      >On Friday morning, the BLS reported that nonfarm payroll employment rose by only 22,000 in August. Analysts had forecast that the economy would add 75,000 jobs during the month. According to the agency, gains made in health care were offset by losses in federal government employment, as well as mining, quarrying and oil and gas extraction.

      >While July’s figures were revised up to 79,000 from 73,000, June’s numbers were revised down by 27,000, dropping from 14,000 to minus-13,000. Meanwhile, the unemployment rate edged up to 4.3 percent from 4.2 percent.

„Gains in health care“ won’t last long with all the health care funding cuts the GOP just passed.

    27. FunBrownLog on

I don’t trust these numbers one bit. There’s no way it’s that positive. Especially after the BLS chief was fired.
