That’s great. Now, make sure that buy Canadian means buy Canadian and penalize retailers who maple wash foreign products.
It’s funny how they are just doing all the things Conservatives have been saying to do for years in an effort to fix all their terrible policies they’ve implemented over the last decade.
I suppose it’s what the FPTP majority wanted during those years. Time to pay the piper.

* A „reskilling package“: The government will extend employment insurance benefits and make them more flexible, launch a digital jobs training program and help 50,000 workers update their skills.
* A strategic response fund: The government says it will invest $5 billion into a new fund that will help tariff-affected industries adapt and train their workforce.
* A new „Buy Canada policy“: The measures will require the federal government to use Canadian suppliers and will also „provide a roadmap“ so provincial and municipal governments do the same.
* Extending Bank of Canada loans: Small and medium-sized businesses will be able to access more capital and will get more flexibility in paying it back. They will also get $1 billion in additional support over three years.
* Agriculture relief: There will be a new $370-million biofuel production incentive, and clean fuel regulations will be amended to help the biofuels industry. Canola will also get relief support from the federal government to help it bear China’s 75.8 per cent tariff on Canadian canola.
Overall I’m pleased with this.
The EV Mandate wasn’t realistic with Battery and Infrastructure tech unless the US has the SAME mandate, which they don’t. We either need to break out auto pact with the US or we need to stay somewhat in step. I’m still on the fence which I would do, I’d need to be involved in the international trade talks and big auto groups to get their feels.
ReSkill package I hope gets double the funding, 50k workers really isn’t a lot if the industries really keep getting hit. We need to create additional industries related to processing our raw materials, this will take some big shared investments.
I’d like to see more money being spent on infrastructure that can support housing we have a massive lack of funding in Canada directed towards upgrading our water systems and transportation systems which both could really help our housing getting built, water is needed because well fire/drinking/waste processing, and transportation systems can mean removal of parking minimums, and better use of land, and easier moving of goods within the country.
