Was talking to a mate in the industry the other day
Builders are all holding off for the reduction in apartment size which is supposed to be coming and thats why none of them are starting projects and its down so much

Housing commencements are down because of difficulties financing projects. No one is waiting for new rules.

People on here won’t hear of it but…..
Materials and labour are basically extortion at the current market rates.
I know several people sitting with planning approved that won’t pull the pin until it’s absolutely necessary.
In one case they bought a second hand 3 bed rather than build their own plans.
We could see a kind of fucked up scenario where people needs homes but the cost of building not allowing them to be built – same thing happened in the early 80s
And yet ESB waiting times for new connections are through the roof. Makes no sense.
Where are the FF/FG bootlickers to spin this?
Hmmm, I’m sceptical about these figures.. Seems everywhere I look lately, there are new builds going up, lots of apartment blocks and estates being built. I Havnt seen this many new builds since the boom. Maybe they all just started building towards the end of last year, but I would have thought the figures would be much higher for this year. Personally, I see far more going up now than in 2023, the 80% drop figure I’m doubtful of. Could just be my local area though idk. Can’t really argue with figures from Department of Housing though, just don’t understand it
