Let me guess if Maduro reacts we have a pretext for further US escalation.

Not that it could even be Venezuelan government  related or connected.

      Isn’t it a funny coincidence that…
…Venezuela has the largest oil reserves in the world
… the US warships were dispatched one day after the meeting with Putin
… Russia is basically the only country that offers Venezuela at least some protection
… Trump gives Putin free rein in Ukraine
… Putin says nothing about the threat to Venezuela from the USA

Only a mischievous person would think ill of this.

What is the reasoning behind all of this Venezuela escalation?

Or at least the best guess

Hope that this not further escalates. The Venezuelan people have already suffered enough.

If it really is a drug smuggling boat then good. As a hispanic person, I’m sick of cartels.

As of January 2024, Guyana has an estimated 11 billion barrels of proven oil reserves, which is 75% of Brazil’s reserves. The International Energy Agency predicts that Guyana’s daily production could increase fivefold by 2030, from 250,000 barrels in 2022.

Venezuela has engaged in military build-ups near its border with Guyana, including troop and equipment movements, in a show of force and preparations for potential military conflict over the disputed Essequibo region. While Guyana’s government has responded with diplomatic efforts and sought international legal assistance to de-escalate the situation, the two nations have shown they are prepared for conflict, even though no act of aggression has occurred.

ExxonMobil and its partners have committed nearly $55 billion to the development of six oil projects in Guyana’s offshore Stabroek Block, with over $33 billion of this amount having been spent by early 2025. The investments are primarily for exploring and developing the block’s substantial oil reserves, with production from the six projects expected to reach over a million barrels of oil per day by 2027.

Venezuela’s Ministry of Defense states it has between 95,000 to 150,000 active combatants in the Venezuelan Armed Forces (FANB), which also includes the National Guard, Navy, and Air Force, alongside a growing National Militia of hundreds of thousands.

Guyana’s military, the Guyana Defence Force (GDF), has approximately 3,400 active-duty personnel, with an additional 670 in the volunteer reserve.

Venezuela holds the largest proven oil reserves in the world, with approximately 303-304 billion barrels.

I’m assuming it could have been easily intercepted but exploding it makes them feel tougher.

End result – everyone in the US is going to pay a little more for their nose candy

So it’s not going to be a Gulf on Tonkin rerun. It’s going to more be an Iraq rerun.

    12. I never understood this. Uncle Sam’s Military is out there on the ocean intercepting drug shipments on the Ocean.

Why isn’t Military the big dick swinger on the land border with Mexico?

It seems to be a huge National Security problem. The military gears up and sends out laser guided freedom in Iraq at the drop of a hat. Yet…I don’t get the feeling the Military is actively engaged in the biggest risk, closest to home? I could be way off but given the size of the problem I just thought the military would be the go to.

People were hoping he was dead this weekend. His approval rating just came in at the lowest for any President in history. It’s a good time to blow something up but he has precious few legitimate targets that will make people cheer so blow up a drug boat.

    14. Why do they need to strike a drug but why not just see it the arrest of people and sink it

Trump’s looking for his Gulf of Tonkin moment. Anything to distract from Epstein.

    16. bedbathandbebored on

Ah yes. Because sending a whole bunch of warships for 1 “boat” makes sense

Trump saw Bibi and Putin staying in power because of war and he wants that

    18. Quick question. If the Trump admin is truly doing so much to stop the flow of drugs, by making it harder to emigrate, stronger searches and tighter surveillance through ICE and whatnot. Why is the drug problem in the US not improving?

Are they just shit at their jobs, or is the Gov facilitating the entry of certain drugs like blues
