I think in the same way that a lot of the far right are overstating the case, this letter and the left more generally end up adopting an at best naive and more cynically delusional position on the topic.
It seems relatively obviously self evident to me that importing en-masse a large number of young men from primarily regressive countries when it comes to sexual politics, putting them into vulnerable communities without much entertainment or anything else and making them wait for months on end, will inevitably end up having a higher level of sexism and sexual abuse.
In the absence of clear data, the answer should be to get more data and to present it transparently, without bias, in order to inform the public.
In my view, the worst case scenario is another grooming gangs style situation where the political mainstream delude themselves into believing the world they want to exist, and the far right massively increase their credibility when it turns out there was an issue there.
If the right wingers don’t listen to Diane Abbott or Zarah Sultana, could they ever be convinced?!
If Sarah Pochin tells lefties to link migration to the sexual abuse of women, would the left listen?
It is interesting that the right wing only seems to care about sexual abuse when brown lads are doing it.
And there was no condemnation when it came out that 40% of the rioters nicked last year had been reported for domestic violence.
IIRC usually this sexual abuse fell on working class/poorer women so having wealthy women announce this seems like downplaying the issue. Reminds me a lot of issues in American feminism where it’s rightly criticised for being ran by coastal middle class white woman and largely ignoring everyone else.
The doors were opened to this by mainstream parties making a big song and dance about ‘violence against women and girls’ for votes.
The far right are doing the same thing, except with their own spin.
Prominent U.K. women should have made it known that they disagreed with the politicisation of crimes against women/girls earlier; now it’s all just a part of the game.
Pretending it isn’t a problem won’t make it go away.

Just ignoring the voices of less privileged women affected by rape and violence that may have been victims by foreign men isn’t going to work anymore. You can’t ignore that it doesn’t happen and doing nothing about it.
Things will change and speaking about things that some people find uncomfortable is just unfortunate for them.

This gives the impression of a bunch of left-wing women complaining that they’ve lost the narrative on migration.
The Right aren’t making this shit up. People know it’s a problem. They seem the headline about the sex crimes being committed regularly. These women just don’t like that it’s becoming a wider talking point, and that their cries of „Noooo…you don’t understand the wider, socio-economic factors at play that led to that little girl getting gang raped.“ aren’t getting the same cut-through with the public that they once did.
