Losing his wife and kids wasn’t enough.
Losing most of his friends wasn’t enough.
Having all previous colleagues ignore him wasn’t enough.
He wants jail, give him jail. Might get the mental health treatment he sorely needs.

I really don’t like the idea of anyone being arrested over a tweet – and besides, Linehan is doing a perfectly good job of ruining his career on his own without the law being involved.

He was literally asking people to punch women who they don’t think look feminine enough. So yeah not surprising he got arrested!

Well there is a difference between speech and incitement. ‘I don’t believe x is y’ shouldn’t be an arrestable offence. Inviting people to assault random strangers should.

he’s in court for harassment and criminal damage on Thursday too! He would’ve been coming back to the UK for this court case when he got arrested for yet more poor behaviour. The man deserves bad things.

A woman is going to get assaulted for not looking femenine enough. I wonder if Linehan will be cheering that on.

Linehan is a knob with poor self-control and his own worst enemy.
But before this thread descends into festival of gloating, here is some useful context:
The arrest is the result of a complaint from former PC Linsay Watson, a transwoman and deeply disturbed individual. Watson was sacked from her job as a WPC with Leicestershire police for gross misconduct after posting thousands of abusive and defamatory messages at members of the gender critical campaign group Fair Cop, under a variety fake persona. She reported former police officer Harry Miller to the anti-terror police 60 times, and fabricated quotes from him threatening violence against women. She has also reported the barrister Sarah Phillimore innumerable times to the bar standards association, to no avail. Since losing their job, Watson is now a full-time vexatious complainant, and this is the second time her complaints have resulted in an arrest. It’s unlikely to go anywhere.
Linsay Watson needs help, not encouragement.

Has J K Rowling sent him loads of money for a lawyer yet?

He’s gone so far I almost feel sorry for him more than anything else. He has incredible talent as a comic writer. Such a waste for him to put all that energy into hating people

I think being arrested for a fucking TWEET is insane.
We don’t realize how unbelievably stupid our Internet rules are compared to the rest of the worlds. Especially since the 18+ shit kicked in.
What a sad state were in.

I’ve been rewatching (and listening to) Chris Morris’s Jam and Blue Jam, on which Lineham is credited as a writer. No individual writer is given credit for individual sketches; but a recurrent strand of this 1990s series is a family where someone states their child identifies as something else – I remember one being a ‘40 year old man’. The words were never there, but there was an underlying ‘attack helicopter’ sense to them. I suspect Linehan wrote these, and if I am right, his obsession goes back *decades*, but only Twitter hooked him up with an explicit, unfiltered outlet.

It’s a real shame to see someone so previously talented throw his entire life away on a pointless obsession. He needs help but above all he needs to stop hating people, including clearly himself.

Don’t think people should be arrested for these kinds of offences, doesn’t really solve the underlying issue that Linehan has made transphobia his life identity and that hateful idiots are willing to pay him online for his bigotry. If he gets put away, they’ll just find some other mentally unstable transphobe to promote. The real problem is that Musk’s Twitter unbanned him, if twitter did its job we wouldn’t have this problem in the first place.
Linehan will just claim he’s being oppressed online. And the police will arrest more people from the other camp for similar offences and congratulate themselves for being neutral, as we slide into more authoritarianism and more use of police to deal with everything.
Mind you, that doesn’t mean we aren’t allowed to enjoy the peace and quiet left if he does get put away.
