Yeah, I’m sure Chappel Roan and Sam Fender wil let you air their sets for free.
Why not just let TG4 broadcast it?
Music is one of the main things they show. They have just done the full fleadh.
Folks, we know why. Putting on a live or delayed broadcast of a music festival is a complicated and difficult process, involving time, resources, and personnel. This is why TG4 did it, since they do music broadcasts all the time. And RTÉ doesn’t because it isn’t a format they can copy of the British or American broadcasters or fluff they can throw together with Dáithí and whichever poor soul has to react opposite him.
Did TG4 have to pay Festival Republic for the right to broadcast it? The article doesn’t mention it.
The BBC do great coverage of Glastonbury but they pay the festival a huge amount of money for the broadcasting rights.
TG4 EP show is about Irish stages and Irish content. Serious initiative from TG4.
RTE would need to pay a fair bit for fees / licencing, I’d say.
With how tight their spending is to make sure their salaries aren’t affected, we’d only dream of such things on TV.
Just on the cost thing though, I honestly wonder if there’s a way that RTE or Virgin could just link in with one of the festival sponsors for EP or ATN like 3, Guinness etc & balance out the costs each way? It’s more exposure for everyone involved?
TG4 have always been good at this stuff – but I feel like they’re really becoming Ireland’s culture station.
Would be class to see them get a massive funding increase with an ethos to go full gauche; stuff like this with EP/ATN/Fleadh but also become Ireland’s answer to Mubi/Arte and maybe even what original Vice Media and Film Four were before both of them went bad, and have them at the very heart of a rejuvenated Irish arts, culture and of course language landscape.
Do you think there would be that much interest in it from the public who aren’t at ep. It’s no where near as big as Glastonbury and honestly the lineup is so much smaller. I think all the people who are into EP were at EP. The rest of us don’t care

TG4 excels at arts and music making the most of a miniscule budget and more difficult brief versus RTE. The picnic should be entirely on TG4 the dual language programming is really accessible and I would say better for the language

Cos RTE are completely awful, not fit for purpose, and I can only imagine one of the worst state broadcasters outside of dictatorship countries.
