I think that what often gets left out of the conversation regarding rising antisemitism in Canada and elsewhere is the fact that Israel right now is engineering a famine and a genocide and saying that this is what Judaism demands, and the rest of the world is not only letting them get away with it, but actively supporting it and suppressing dissent against it. Given that Housefather is one of the most ardent supporter of Israel in Parliament, it begs the question as to whether they’re really fully self aware of what’s going on and how their positions on Israel are actively endangering Jewish communities.

And to be clear, because this has been a source of confusion – I personally am not condoning acts of anti-Semitism, merely pointing out the cognitive process by which a person may conclude that anti-Semitism could be justified. Israel exists in a state of exception that has tarnished the religion they claim to represent and poisoned a lot of people against them. You cannot talk about „rising antisemitism“ without talking about how or why it’s riding and what can really be done about that.
