News snippet: PARIS (AP) — French President Emmanuel Macron’s decision to recognize a Palestinian state, prompting similar moves from other Western nations, angered Israel and its U.S. ally by putting a two-state solution back at the heart of diplomatic efforts to end the devastating war in Gaza.
In a letter to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu last week, Macron wrote that “our determination to see the Palestinian people have their own state is rooted in our conviction that lasting peace is essential to the security of the state of Israel.”
France’s diplomatic efforts “stem from our outrage at the appalling humanitarian disaster in Gaza, for which there can be no justification,” Macron added. Israel on Friday declared Gaza’s largest city a combat zone as the death toll surpassed 63,000 Palestinians, according to the territory’s Health Ministry, since the war started on Oct. 7, 2023, with a Hamas-led attack on Israel.

So what are you going to do about it, Macron?
Don’t get me wrong, recognition of Palestine as a state is a good thing. It should also mean recognition of the rights of the Palestinian people to live and govern themselves; to Palestinian self-determination and also to their self-defense and pave the way to aid them in their self-defense.
But if Macron’s formal recognition of Palestine doesn’t come with France levying consequences for its allies, Israel and the U.S., or aid to support the Palestinian right to self-determination, then what good does it do?

I’m not sure that anyone is all that concerned about ‚angering‘ the US anymore. That seems to be the predominant emotion in the Trump White House and, no matter what they do, the Administration will find something it wants to be pissed off about.

So? Who cares what the US or Israel thinks? They don’t care about us either.

We are on the wrong side and have been for decades. Not the Jewish/Palestinian side but with the western world’s side.

What does recognition do? Does Palestine have a government?
