Fuck Macron, though it’s not surprising that a dictator would be in favor of more authoritarian policies.

Just so you guys know, this is about defending against Trump’s attacks on EU digital regulations which he claims are unfair for US companies…

America innovates and Europe legislates and regulates. Classic Europe

Macron you would be wise to openly oppose against chat control and veto any legislation coming from Parliament if there is any notice of support.
Any other digital legislation to protect against America I don’t really see benefit from it unless we advocate to use our own alternatives.

Hopefully these arent just words and these regulations will actually be strictly imposed. American companies can either comply or leave

I’m opposed to chat control, but…
Why does every news story about tech have to be seen through the lens of chat control? Yes, chat control is shit, but without the tech legislation already in place, we’d be even worse off.

We were also determined to respond forcefully to Trump’s Tariffs

They were once determined that US tariffs would be met with a variety of European countermeasures. We all know how that played out. I don’t have much faith in European leaders anymore. Trump will make new tariff threats, of question the US‘ comittment to NATO, and the EU will cave faster than a cardhouse during a cat 5 hurricane.

How about taxing foreign digital services and supporting European ones?

Boo hoo 🙁
Always up to regulate the monopolys, but at the same time EU is feeding the tech monopoly with the future Google collab. And the DMA? Doesn’t do anything from stopping the app store monopoly Apple has, they just used a loophole and nothing changed, because relying on the big boss is still relying on the monopoly to validate your existence. And now Google wants to do the Apple shit too, because why be the bastion of freedom with all the android projects people do, when you can turn closed ecosystem like Apple.

It sounds good. But I am pretty sure US will blackmail EU again like they did with trade deal which was one sided. US will say „agree on our terms for digital taxes or we will stop weapons sales to Ukraine“
So to stand firm, EU needs to be ready to lose US weapons access. Not sure if EU is willing to go to that step yet.

Digital sovereignty is must. Relying on US tech is even more problematic than not taxing them. EU really needs to accelerate Eurostack. Or else we can face the same issue we faced with Russian gas.
Reliance on BIG TECH companies based in country with unreliable rules and vindictive leadership is very serious issue. We know that Meta was lobbying with White House and suddenly a message comes from US that tariff will be imposed if you make your own digital rules.
