Many cases of chickenpox are mild and children get over it relatively quickly, if however a child gets a severe dose or the rash gets infected its a different story. Immunisation means children are protected and I for one think that’s a bloody good idea.
Death is just a part of life (the end part); so let’s not treat cancer, heart disease etc.

Can’t read this any other way than „I’m alright, Jack“. It also says a lot about a person when they explicitly acknowledge that they have no idea what they’re talking about but still feel the need to offer their tuppence.
Does he not have a point? I don’t fully understand the purpose in a chickenpox vaccine, unless the child for whatever reason is especially vulnerable (e.g. has a weakened immune system). It’s unpleasant, but the number of children whose chickenpox is severe and leads to other complications is absolutely minuscule.
I’m not against the vaccine, but resources in the NHS are finite, and chickenpox feels like a low priority compared to more impactful things that money could be spent on.
Being anti-vax seems like a good measure of whether someone is fit for public office. Either they’re an idiot or trying to con you into something.

Chickenpox is mild for most as a small child, but once you get to teenage years or older and you get it, it’s horrible, I didn’t get it till i was 15 and then ended up with other health issues afterwards. My kids are 13 and haven’t had it, even though as toddlers we socialised them with kids who had it. I would love to vaccinate them. Maybe there is an argument for not vaccinating till, for example, 5, if not had it? But at the end of the day, if science has been able to give us vaccines against things, why not make the most of it?
So the, anti-vaxers are back again. I expect the bot farms will be pushing this as well as migrant scare stories.

Does the Chickenpox vaccine e prevent Shingles in later life? If not, then I sort of agree with him, after having recently seen my dad siffer with shingles. Totally debilitating for many, and can leave serious lasting effects.

Vaccines are a safer and more controlled way to gain immunity than contracting the disease it protects you from.
I know chickenpox is usually not fatal or serious. But it can be in a few people, and in others, the virus can manifest as shingles.

Chicken pox seems minor until it’s not. Worked with a family whose kid had two brain stem strokes after chicken pox. Went from typically developing kid to wheelchair, trache, tube fed, cognitively harmed for life. I would vaccinate even if I had to pay privately if I had kids.

I recall getting chicken pox, but I am 41 now. Even if I had it in the past no reason people have to get it now.
I nearly died from chickenpox when I was very young, highly doubt nearly dying at the age of 3 is a supposed to be just a part of life.

Chicken pox is the leading cause of stroke in children. That’s the worst that can happen in a disease that also can cause encephalitis, meningitis, and sepsis from infected spots. At best it’s a week off school being irritable, at worst it can kill. Yes chicken pox is part of life, doesn’t mean it has to be.

The vaccine isn’t to prevent chickenpox. That would be a nice side effect. But no. The vaccine isn’t to reduce how many children get the disease, and the cost-benefit of less children who get adverse reactions (and need nhs care) will be reduced by an amount far cheaper than the cost of the rollout.
If reform get in, they need to find ways to reduce monetary spend across the country. The NHS for all its plaudits, is expensive. It drinks money for fun. If he doesn’t understand that politics decisions are being made by organisations like NICE to help cut costs and get the best outcomes for the NHS he shouldn’t be anywhere near a political position that influences healthcare.

You get Chicken Pox as a kid but you never kill the virus. It’s always there lurking, waiting for your immune system to fall enough for it to attack. Usually due to stress, HIV, having an other serious illness, old age….. So you’re lying in ICU, when you get an attack of Shingles. Which at best increases the length of time that you have to stay in ICU/hospital for. At worst what was a survivable disease/injury gets tipped over the edge.
