Landlord left paying (up to) 18 Mortgages with no income for 5 years.
Thats gonna hurt.
That poor poor owner of EIGHTEEN properties in London. Just a struggling landlord with a little portfolio worth tens of millions of pounds. How on earth are they going to cope?
The WORST landlord i have ever experienced was in Morden. The Merton council was a god send with their help. This landlord has three properties that are straight up rubbish they paint up for photos and let black mould takeover like Last of Us.

Why don’t they name the landlord? Surely it’s in the public interest?
No way he’s paying those 18 mortgages for 5 years without rental income, he’s done and the council know it.

As they should. The solution to rogue landlords and lack of council properties is property seizure. If you’re a landlord and don’t maintain housing to a livable standard, then you don’t get to be landlord.
Great that the landlord will continue to have to pay the mortgage. but…

I read in it that the council will receive the rent from the tenants, which will help recoup the cost of bringing them up to spec, but if a landlord is absentee and has no interest in making sure the property is fit to live in, it should be a part of the process of taking longer-term ownership.
When we have collective shortages of social housing, it shouldn’t be left to the taxpayer to make a house fit for residence only for it to go back to the landlord at a cost to taxpayer.
