    1. The flailing tantrum this guy is causing brightens my day a bit. I can’t vote for him from Iowa, but we’ll be watching

Man, I love to see billionaires throwing money at things. Makes it real easy to see where their fears are.

Understand its about how Mamdani isn’t going to follow their demands. They would rather a criminal be in power that ignores your needs over theirs than anyone else.

    4. I don’t even like Mamdani that much, but the other candidates are so bad and the anti-Mamdani people are so terrible.

    5. $19m total, from multiple billionaires?

That is such a small amount of money to them, it’s laughable. Billionaires should not exist.

$19MM is 1.9% of $1B. This is roughly the equivalent of $1500 to someone making $80k.

And it’s spread across multiple people with multiple billions, so all said and done they’re not really putting that much money in.

You would think the average New Yorker would get some real though as to why there is a smear campaign against this guy and any other politician that wants billionaires to pay a larger share of taxes.

I may not live there, but 3/4 of my family is from NYC, and this level of corruption just makes me sick. I really hope Mamdani wins.

Just proves establishment or Billionaires can’t defeat you if you have a real populist movement behind you.

    10. All men are created equal. Equal votes. Donations should be capped to what everyone can afford

Are mentioned in the rambling tedious article, no list as such

And some of them have donated to Democrat party too.

Maybe someone else can better summarise

Or correct where I have misinterpreted too.

    12. Well god forbid someone that wants to help the working class or should I say working poor gets elected. We can’t have that they might get a leg up on the ladder no no no we can’t that

      > Airbnb reported a $5 million donation to Affordable New York, a group that has spent heavily on city races and reported spending $1.3 million opposing Mamdani and his progressive ally, city comptroller Brad Lander.

Airbnb existing makes New York less affordable. A non-ironic Affordable New York would curtail Airbnb’s operations

So instead of using that money to help NYC, they chose to flush it down the drain

    15. If millionaires are working against it means it’s good for the rest of us.

    16. 19m is like us donating 5 bucks lol, tax the rich so they cant buy elections anymore please.

    17. Serious-Eye4530 on

They should spend their money more altruistically instead of pitching a hissy fit.

I think all of this is actually increasing Mamdani’s support. It’s obvious anyone that inspires this level of hatred from the establishment is a good thing.

    19. Hey maybe instead of just throwing money at the problem they could have recruited a better candidate? One who isn’t a reviled sex pest who the city hated (hated!) while he was governor forever or a Republican?

Like, I frankly don’t care for Mamdani at all, but look at my options!

    20. I’m hoping this backfires spectacular – showing the working class just how the non working billionaire class wants them kept down.

Upstate NY — we LOVE ZOHRAN!!! No more uniparty madness or fascist regime. Real policy since the 1960s! Let’s go!!!

My racist ex lives in NYC. We still chat once in a while. Last time we spoke a couple weeks ago I asked her what she thinks of Mamdani. She went off on a tirade about how he wants Sharia law and if he’s elected will tank property values city wide. Also said anyone, kids especially, crossing the border illegally should be mowed down with automatic weapons. I shit you not. She was never that bad when we were together, but the tendencies were always there. Good thing she doesn’t vote.

    23. Billionaires would rather millions on a failing campaign rather than fix the subway system

Money needs to get out of politics.

When we finally get the chance to do this over for America with democracy 2.0, I really think we need [among many other things] to protect our votes by getting rid of things like Citizens United and the electoral college.
