Is she arguing that the political union of almost 500 million people should be strengthened? Because single nation states with 50 million inhabitants will most certainly fare worse in a world with US/Trump, Russia/Putin or China/Xi.

in today’s world loose confederations could not project as much power as strong federations. Europe needs to be more integrated to protect its interest and project power in its neighborhood.

Right, but „our freedom and our independence“ have also to be based on a detaching from „relying on the U.S.“, moreso taking in consideration Trump’s latest stunts.

The money? Draghi proposed a kind of common fund for the ReArm Europe programme, preferably spent on European products, avoiding arms and means that could be somehow stopped working remotely.

I don’t know how this and what Meloni said could work with the agreement with the United States about buying US arms, though.

If you don’t stand for something, you will bend for everything.

When America let loose the soft power reign it held when the Orange pedo took over, EU should have taken it but instead they are negotiating deals with America to get concession on tariffs. Look at Xi. Doesn’t even give two fucks about whatever percent tariff America is putting on them.

Strange to hear that from Meloni. We’ve never seen her proposing a reform or a project for Europe. What issue is she leading to the European Commission for a better futur? Nothing.

We can highlight the agreement between Tunisia and Europe, which was initiated by her. But it only lasted 1 year (due to violence of Tunisian police against migrants).

When the Europeans meet Trump, she licks his boots and makes fun of her European partners when they talks to Trump (especially the German Chancellor Merz). When it came to dealing with customs duties, she went alone to the USA to ask for exceptions for Italian goods. When the UK, France and Poland talk to send troops to Ukraine, she publicly refused to take part to any initiative.

She does not try anything to make the EU relevant.

Europe has been lazy and complacent for far too long.

It’s a little late to realize that, but better than drawing in the dream of EU is still relevant. Revive your industry. Revive your education. It’ll take decades so you better start now.

This person loves to use EU institutions and structures as leverage for Italys own personal gain, and she wants to sit here and preach about EU going irrelevant in the face of the US and China?

It’s a union of countries, it can never even compete truly with singular nations. However if countries and leaders of those countries acted less like Meloni which is essentially pragmatic nationalism we’d be far better positioned to compete.

But even when it comes to EU security in the case of the war in Ukraine she is entirely lacking on unity. Preferring to mainly adopt a rhetoric of supporting Ukraine but then punching far below its weight in aid, not even trying to be a leader in aiding Ukraine, and being staunchly opposed to direct peace involvement like security guarantees. Part of our geo political irrelevance that she sites, is our inability to truly deal with Russia as a threat.

This shit is just rich coming from someone like her.

For argument sake let’s assume Europe had a vote to unite and it is successful.

There are so many concerns

1) how will the federation work will it adopt a similar model where each state(country) gets the same amount of seats in a house like the US making votes of people in countries with smaller population more valuable compared to larger once or it will be based on population where as party only need a majority in probably Germany, France and Italy or Spain and they make a government

2) how much power will each state(countries)have and who decides that?

3) will it be a presidential system like the US or more of a current parliament one?

4) do citizens even get a choice?

And probably many more questions needs to be answered even if a federation vote is successful it took almost a decade for Brexit to pass and for a federation I would assume each individual country will have a vote and have to rewrite their constitution or laws which doesn’t seem like a fast process

I hate to say it, but the UK leaving hasn’t helped.

There is zero point in being in a supposedly a powerful trading block when that block just rolls over and surrenders when the US decides to launch a trade war, issue threats and adopts an active policy of blackmail and coercion.

If the only way out is through the Union, why stop there? If we don’t include China and Vietnam, it’ll never work.

If we are moving into a multi-polar world, then we cannot afford for Europe not to be one of those poles.

Europe needs to pick a lane.

Either join together to act as one body that can complete while accepting the drawbacks for each individual members agency, or maintain the individual agency and lose the ability to compete as one body.

She is 100% correct. On the world stage, the only opinions that matter are Trump, Xi, Modi or Putin. Europe is irrelevant because they depend on Trump for defense. The fact that Europe can’t even solve the Ukraine question lays bare how long they have to go to become relevant again. I really think the EU is a project worth saving. That Europe is the last bastion of true western democracy. But that won’t last if Europe can’t unify and grow an army.

Many in Europe would be happy enough with this scenario. 

If the EU doesn’t move closer together and speaks with one voice, we will disappear in irrelevance. No amount of fascism can change this fact.

Being less relevant (irrelevant is too much, still a lot of military might and global influence) but quite wealthy seems kinda ideal.

Let the superpowers crush each other and themseves under the pressure of competition for global dominance, while we continue to invest in quality of life.
