One of the biggest issues I have with the law is that rulings can be re-interpreted. What’s the use in precedence in something that has been ruled, tried again multiple times, then suddenly flipped because a new judge reads the wording in a different way?
I get that times change, and sometimes rules need to change with them. But when the timing of these changes seems to coincide to a certain group of people’s benefit when the rule was absolutely fine just a short while ago as it was written for the benefit of the majority of the population, then yeah there’s a serious misstep in the legal process that needs to be fixed.

She’s not quite right. In Calvinball, everyone playing gets to make up rules. Current SCOTUS only one side does, while the other has to follow the rule of law.

Justice Roberts owns a couple homes in Maine, as does Leonard Leo. Before Roberts heads back to DC Mainers are organizing another protest on land and water near Roberts’ home — reportedly he is being ostracized a bit by more neighbors and locals.

Is this the onion asking this very stupid question? Does anyone else think it’s sad and predictable that there is almost no question how cases are going to be decided anymore. If they do actually manage to come up with any reasoning behind the decision beyond because we said so, it uses15th century law from another country that has no bearing on whatever the fuck ever is being decided? Nothing matters anymore because the whole thing is rotten from top to bottom and all Ketanji Brown Jackson can do is watch with the rest of us as the so called conservatives sellout democracy.

With Trump, their rulings basically state that the president can do whatever he wants but that Congress can choose to stop him if they have the votes.
With a Democratic Administration, their rulings are the opposite. The law needs to explicitly state that they have the power to do something (major questions doctrine argument such was their ruling in West Virginia vs EPA)
And if it does explicitly state they have the power, such as the Heroes act allowing the secretary of education to waive or modify student aid during a national emergency, the conservatives on the court decide that congress didn’t really mean they could waive or modify, certainly they must have intended to place specific limits despite the law not stating that.
