    1. florida, famous for having nothing important for their police to be working on,

I know this seems harsh to a lot of you but think how much money the government is saving by this amazing action! Cops, standing around, staring at markings in an intersection. What a victory!

I said they were going to start guarding it 24/7. Fine, spread out and paint them everywhere.

I hope everyone who feels unsafe can take back their home but if not, that you can come to a place like L.A. where you will be safe.

The fact that a decent portion of Florida will become unhabitable in the coming decades because of climate change is divine punishment.

How fiscally responsible. Is this the crime wave they were talking about? People with chalk?

    6. >The [Bloomberg Philanthropies 2022 Asphalt Art Safety Study](https://assets.bbhub.io/dotorg/sites/43/2022/04/Asphalt-Art-Safety-Study.pdf) found that crashes involving pedestrians or cyclists drop 50% at painted intersections.

      >It also reported a 25% decrease in conflicts between drivers and pedestrians, a 27% increase in drivers immediately yielding to pedestrians, and a 38% decrease in pedestrians crossing when the walk signal was not lit at intersections involving public art. The data also revealed that injuries resulting from crashes drop 37% in painted intersections.

Don’t let DeSantis and Christian nationalists try to claim this is all about „public safety“. It’s all about telling queer people they are not welcome in America, which is anti-American.

Hahaha oh my god that’s like $300,000 a year to stop people from chalking a sidewalk.

Imagine being the sidewalk chalk cop. That’s your life now. You watch the sidewalk. The career growth potential..

      Peak America. I love it.

I look forward to the day I complete my degree and leave this hellhole state.

Isn’t this the sort of thing the National Guard should be brought in for instead?

      /S

    10. They should just coordinate drones with paint filled balloons and drop them over night – every night.

How are they so unaware of their cognitive dissonance and hypocrisy?

It’s like with the Sydney Sweeney „jeans“ ad and this latest controversy around Cracker Barrel. They are so hyper-fixated on their culture wars and grievance politics that they’re unable to acknowledge how often it’s *them* who are in a perpetual state of outrage over their own manufactured scandals.

The rainbow crosswalk became a symbol of „wokeness“ for them and a target of their ire and obsession, while at the same time, they accuse the woke, gender bending, radical left of engaging in histrionics.

They lament „the left’s“ fixation with wearing or sporting pride colors, but at the same time, they shamelessly decorate their homes, their vehicles, their property, even themselves in gaudy MAGA merchandise.

They condemn liberals for relying too much on identity politics, when they obviously cannot separate their identity from their politics. It’s madness.

Sure seems like a good time for a nationwide „Chalk the Crosswalk“ campaign.

    13. Orwells_Roses on

Cops protecting sidewalks from.. chalk rainbows. National Guard troops deployed to pick up litter. FBI agents chasing people who don’t pay their subway fare.

The folks behind this are not serious people.

    14. Shh.. can you hear that? Millions of rainbow-colored gay dollars flittering away like butterflies, toward Mobile and Puerto Vallarta and San Fran.

    15. yotengodormir on

Remember when Desantis was wearing high heels boots? That’s gayer than a rainbow cross walk.

    16. Hey, watch it. If all the Florida residents continue to defy the laws and paint that crosswalk the government might also hire a construction worker, Native American, and cowboy to guard it.

    17. LordSiravant on

So go where they aren’t and paint that. Stretch their resources thin. Resist.

    18. Because rainbows are scary…if they are that afraid of paint how fast would they run from a school shooter.

    19. Police so fragile they’re out there fighting painted rainbows. Nothing scarier or more dangerous than a painted rainbow walkway. 🙄

What a bunch of pathetic losers.

I say, paint more rainbows everywhere. Rainbow resistance. If the police want to waste all their time, money, and energy out there fighting rainbows, let em. We’ll just keep painting more rainbows.

    20. You can’t support politics like this and be a decent person. It is mathematically impossible.

    21. You know, that’s not the only crosswalk in Florida. Be a shame if other crosswalks were painted rainbow, or light poles, or sidewalks, or overpasses, …

That would keep the cops busy.

    22. AGrandNewAdventure on

Sounds like random crosswalks throughout the city are going to get rainbow blasted.

    23. Framistatic on

What could be better than a full-time employee dedicated to confounding the will of the people?

    24. Disc-Golf-Kid on

I’ve been out there chalking it back in the past 3 days. I’ll be out there again undeterred. We had one confrontation with a trooper, but for the most part the police have just been watching.

    25. Life-Celebration-747 on

I know this is a memorial, but there are other crosswalks, keep them busy.

    26. The best next move is to start coloring in the other cross walks nearby rainbow: the unguarded ones. Let the cops play whack a mole.

    27. FrostyDucks879 on

This is a memorial to mass shooting victims, wtf is wrong with DeSantis and THE GOP PEDO PROTECTORS.

    28. ass_grass_or_ham on

Just start rainbowing everything. Rainbow stickers, murals, every fucking thing.

    29. Henryhendrix on

This seems like a good use of tax money. And a good use of police forces. Surely no criminals are going to pick up on this and do crime elsewhere. Well done.
