I wonder if the residents realize how bigoted they appear to be. Oh no! A bunch of dark-skinned Africans are coming…panic!

Russia and China could just create bot accounts on Xitter to spread fake stories in every Japanese city and watch public trust collapse under a mix of racism and widespread susceptibility to political disinformation. Oh wait, that is already happening. No threat to Japan is greater than Xitter and its political alarmism, yet everyone discussing national security in this country remains obsessed with guns and tanks and muh grand strategy, so they will never see it.

I work in Imabari and haven’t heard anyone say anything about this at all. There’s already tons of Indonesians, Vietnamese and Brazilians working in the towel making and shipbuilding industries. I live the next city over and my neighbours include Indonesians and Pakistanis who work in Imabari. Hard working non-drinkers, my kind of neighbours. Had zero problems. Never heard anyone in Imabari say they’ve had any problems either.

Intercultural communication between countries, the concept of sister cities, etc; is nothing new. This is the consequence of unchecked populism, fear mongering and sensationalism.

Assuming this is true (the complaints thing), aren’t nationals allowed to voice their concerns when the JP government announces that they are going to ease in the arrival of Africans in their towns?

Like „what does it mean exactly“, „why our towns“, „why Africans?“

I mean, should they just act all happy and start parading in the streets, holding „welcome“ signs?

Do people really expect locals to have positive to totally neutral position about this?

Any community in the world always look with a cautious eye the arrival of foreigners, especially in Japan where the immigration rate is so low. Don’t you folks act shocked about that, that is totally hypocritical.
